May even increase.
You’d have thought so, tours of Buckingham Palace alone would bring in a right few bob.

I think so, I was having this discussion yesterday in work with two full on royalists, there would always be those who would come to see the sights irrespective if we have the crown or not, I'd just ban the French :hehe:

I'll keep it polite and respectful but something needs to change pretty quickly and GB needs to be more representative of everyone and the playing field levelled. It's 2023 and not 1623!
Reads like a page from the Socialist Workers Party manifesto. You just don't get it do you ? Some of the most fervent supporters of the Royal Family and all the history they bring to this country are the ordinary working class people. In difficult times especially the monarchy's presence and all the history the UK has brings comfort and solidity to people who might be struggling and gives them pride in their country. Go and live somewhere like Albania if you don't like it here.

The "king" is not accountable and we can't get rid of him.
Museums, galleries, old buildings etc are seen as a benefit. So if you're going to eschew the economic question, then what cultural benefit does royalty have for the entire country (and not just your own personal taste)?
I dont criticise republics. I criticise people moaning, slagging people off, manufacturing false consequences of the monarchy and talking about things like this (often from a position of privilege themselves) that have no consequence on people's lives.
And don't give me this 'let the people' decide stuff either, cos there's a big crossover between people who whinge about the monarchy and whinge about Brexit, which the people voted for (esp poorer people).
In fact, if there is anything that links it all is whingeing. Show me a positive vision, and I'll listen. Until then, there is no reason to change, and some reasons to keep the status quo, given they have no legislative power but do provide some stability as well as serving the country abroad etc.
But I don't care what people think, that's up to them..live and let live as I said the other day to the first ranting thread on CCMB aboti this.

It's an utter myth. Chester Zoo has more visitors than any of the Royal Family properties. In addition France gets far more visitors than us without one. Why do plebs constantly fall for whatever the status quo media tells them.

People voted for Brexit because they were lied to by the government. And because they were stirred up jingoistic nonsense about how "great" Britain is and the demonization of Europe, the third largest economy on the planet.

France get more tourists than us and they ain't got a monarchy. If all the countries in all the world with present day monarchies became republics immediately do you think tourism would die a death? No, me neither.

they don't anywhere near break even, the tourism arguments are completely bogus

Re: Medieval pantomime a right embarrassment on the world stage
It's not a big deal in the scheme of things. The M4 relief road cost more and we have some papers to show for it.
Can we do away with Welsh labour too?

Yes those things are exactly the same. You must be absolutely fuming at the £1.5 trillion debt the tories have added to the debt then.
It's £100 million a year basically on top of all the land they've stolen from the public.
This doesn't take into account other costs like policing etc either.

I wouldn’t worry too much about debt , when you realise how it works

I think the fact that the UK has this living history that stretches back centuries and is still alive today does help tourism and drive general interest in the country, which I am always surprised at when I go abroad.
There are valid arguments on both sides but I don't see how becoming a republic would help in raising awareness of the country or in things like tourism

Your message has an odd set of points and some even odder conclusions. I spent most of my working life travelling globally for a large US multinational. Contrary to belief of many the UK has lost position in the world ranks from a business, economic, technical standpoint amongst many. My post wasn't political so don't know where you get that from?

Public beheadings (or guillotining) would maybe pack the punters in:hehe:
