Yes, the place I’m thinking of was just across the road from the Crooked Stairs, it was no more than twenty or thirty yards away,

What was the small club just down from the Mill stadium, opposite it, you walked down to steep as hell stairs, bar on the left, DJ at the rear, walked though that and upstairs to alternative stuff ( punk / goth types ) it was fairly hard techno downstairs
was it the square club ? ? ?

Re: Favourite pubs and clubs when you were young?
interesting to see similar aged people on here, you can tell the ages by the places you went
-
Re: Favourite pubs and clubs when you were young?
Gingers, Raffles (Scuffles), The Camelot and Stoneleighs (my personal favourite)
I liked the Tom Tom club and Coco Savannahs as well but it was full of Cardiff people who looked down on us Valley Boys

Castle Bar
Sandringham
Criterion
The Albert
Out of town: the Greendown Inn, Bluebell and the White Hart.
Anyone remember a restaurant in Charles Street called something like San Pauli ? The entrance was down a few steps and the signage was an illuminated yellow arch. Great steak and onions in there.

Re: Favourite pubs and clubs when you were young?
I've only been in Cardiff since my 30s, so you won't have heard of my haunts.
Started in The Bush, Bassaleg (when I was at school!) - no longer standing.
A few around Risca (where I lived) Crosskeys and Newport (where I went to college)
Stafford (Uni days)
Bracknell and Swindon (Industrial year from uni)
A couple in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh - 6 months secondment)
And a few in London, particularly in Leyton (Lion& Key - closed last time I was there) and Hollybush, where I played most of my darts)
And in The Star, StMellons (darts again)
And of course the Vulcan near my Cardiff works

I forgot the Coin (Numismatists) Club, later became Jan’s Kitchen then Clayton’s Prison. Ran by a bloke called Billy Hood. Only came to life after the Oak, New Dock, Bertram, Loco, Clifton & Canadian closed for the night. Open all hours. Had to have a plate of chips to maintain its ‘restaurant’:hehe: status.
