This is exactly the reason you never let them use the best crockery!

I've got no issue with this, I just don't trust them not to smash or chip my favourite mugs

I hope this is common practice. For us it's the ones at the back of the cupboards (rinsed first of course).
big chunky mugs, used to buy 6 of them from Wilko's for a fiver, any trades who come to my house ( inc mates ) get them

Re: Do you tip tradesmen?
Tip if you want, don't if you don't want to.
I thought these types of "help" thread were Sludgies forte, he's been lacking lately.
As for the "cup dilemma" shall we say, what a bunch of pompous twats :hehe:

Re: Do you tip tradesmen?
I might have once, but don't think I have since.
What i do though is pay them in full within 24 hours of them finishing the job. I hope that's appreciated more than if I give them an extra few £.

Re: Do you tip tradesmen?
Not generally, I did have a guy come in and skim some walls, paint and a few bits, he was much cheaper than expected and did a very good job, gave him and the lad an extra £20 each for a drink, in the hope if I need him again he sees it as a good job to come back to.

My problem is not knowing what the current rate is. I’m having a lot of work done on the outside of the house at the moment and the quotes varied massively, like 3x in some cases. I used to get maybe 10% - 20%. It’s tough to know who to trust. I’ve just paid, £11k for a job where I ended up doing the floor tiling, painting & lighting myself. The bricky told me yesterday that the builder hasn’t paid him the money I paid the builder. My trust is very thin at the moment.

It doesn't change Des. Standards have dropped, people will go in heavy with prices if they're busy, then end up with too much work, not enough Labour. It's a bit of a free for all and becaue there's such a shortage of skilled Labour (I wonder why) prices have risen sharply, or builder just try it on.

I am of the option that if a customer thinks I deserve a tip for doing a good job ( now keep in mind they are paying us to do a good job, so it should be expected that the job is done well, its a shame thats not the case anymore ) then crack on and give me a extra £20

Who said you were getting shit crockery
You’re just not getting my Ramsey mug. Or my FAW one with the old badge.
Or whatever the Mrs favourite set of 4 is at that given time.
You’re getting one of the previous favourite set of 4, or one from lanzarote or other foreign holidays which, while aren’t anywhere near daily use, are perfectly adequate.
And they’ll have been thoroughly rinsed of dust and spiders

So I’m a valve set enthusiast. F*ck you. You’re getting the jam jars if you ever set foot in my manor matey!

Don’t apologise mate. I can’t blame you wanting to look after your best mugs. I’ve got a Prince Charles Investiture mug that no riff raff’s lips are getting anywhere near.

Re: Do you tip tradesmen?
And I’m the only one who tips. Well that’s not gonna happen anymore. Mrs C is already stocking up the Tesco bags after hearing the truth about tradesmen getting caught short.

Re: Do you tip tradesmen?
My Mrs still tips the postperson at Christmas
Not the dust people though, as they leave shite all over the street
