Yes for sure, it's all to play for, but the momentum currently is downwards for them.

it's an area we are also now looking do do more in, like selling McGuiness at the start of the season
Hes 30 this year, not sure they will get stupid money for him. Their business model in the past, not sure so much under this regime, was to cash in on their young star players, or players who had justhad a great season ie Michu, Bony.etc and get top dollar for them. Huw Jenkins was very good in that respect. Think Grimes is past the point of being sold for his optimum value.

Cov will be paying close to £3.5m for Grimes , just the structure of the deal to finalise, hardly a steel IMHO

yeah they're definitely not doing it as well as they have in the past, I don't think they sold anyone of note last season, so that's probably forcing their hand a bit too.

Not really that arsed about what Swansea are doing, but that's surely a massive blow for them, even if he is nearly 30. Especially if he's asked to leave.
He's absolutely integral to the way they play and obviously a massive character in their dressing room - didn't Luke Williams say earlier this season that he lets him do the team talks?

They are presumably still ironing out the deal.

I trust they cleaned it first.

3.5m is not stupid money though is it. Its chicken feed in todays football market. To replace Grimes with a younger version they would need to spend easily 2m to get a league 1 player with potential, so hardly any profit to be made from the deal and they are losing arguably their best player. Certainly top 3.
Not like the days when they were regualrly selling players for north of 15 million. Gylfi went for a reported 40 million. Bony 30m. Ayew 25m,etc,etc,etc.
Jenkins was the Welsh Daniel Levy. He drove a hard bargain.
Re: The Sinking ship down West
I’m really hoping that they’re unable to pay over the odds salaries to get mercenaries down there anymore.

True , Sheffield United looking at Darling, who has refused to sign a new deal as of writing , looks like the club is looking downward and in decline for the first time in decade or more
Lovely :hehe:

Swansea were always pretty good at bringing in replacement players after selling, they would get them up and running quickly, then sell them on at a profit. That's stalled over the past few seasons and it's something they have relied on hugely. They could start to really struggle unless this new lot invest.

Too far right. Won't move into centre field, fires too many shots from a right position.

Swansea City officials have received 'death threats'

Oh Bless death threats because we battered them.
Grimes exit would leave Swans with another hole to fill
Matt Grimes has played in all but four of Swansea City's 305 league games since relegation from the top flight in 2018.

Grimes exit, sporting director latest and transfers - just what is going on at Swansea City
Swansea City's transfer window has been a deeply frustrating and underwhelming one so far

There’ll be someone crying on the wireless this weekend I reckon.

I'm surprised the Blades didn't come in for him.

Think it was the QPR game when they won 3-0 with all of the goals coming in the first half.
Thought the manager's inappropriate comments about him being linked with the West Brom job were a minor distraction at first, but it seems to have had a devastating impact on them - I may be wrong, but I don't think Grimes leaves if they weren't made.
Re: The Sinking ship down West
swansea town is falling down :D
no money for signings, players want out, owners draining the club ! only one way they are going :hehe:

It could just be as simple as that he’s been offered a large contract with a big signing on fee and he might think it’s the best offer for him as he approaches 30

They’ll be fine. They always are. I’m sure they’ll get decent replacements and Grimes is way past his best and I’ve never rated Darling. They have a knack of pulling a couple of rabbits out of the hat
They have constantly harked to our imminent demise which so far hasn’t materialised (though it still might) so I’m not crowing about their current difficulties
Though it is very funny
Re: The Sinking ship down West
Swansea and Grime always seemed a good match.
