What really shows the dearth of bands is how far up The Libertines are on the poster, they played Clwb Ifor Bach last year! Talk about past their prime!

I was thinking about this the other day and how music had the ability to drive people towards certain causes, or to get engaged with campaigns, marches etc. Red Wedge, Poll Tax marches, Rock against Racism, CND, Clash, Pistols, Dylan etc etc Lyrics to wake up the sleeping rebel sort of thing.
Nowadays, musically is there anything mainstream to encourage you to get angry about?
I know it sounds a bit foil hat but I often wonder if the government employed Simon Cowell to sanitise mainstream music to stop the masses rising.
Lyrics of this week's number1:
"God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl, and you dance at the club"
Oh, mama, I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels
It's where I belong, down at the
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing down in West Hollywood
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club
Pink Pony Club"
Lyrics of the No.1 45 years ago (Yes, 1980!!):
"Something's happening here today
A show of strength with your boy's brigade
And I'm so happy and you're so kind
You want more money, of course I don't mind
To buy nuclear textbooks for atomic crimes
And the public gets what the public wants
But I want nothing this society's got"
It sounds like a decent broken dreams tune to me

After doing some research there may be a bit more to this song, and the mention of West Hollywood in the lyrics seems to be key to this deeper meaning.

Yeah I saw the green man lineup the other day, I’m not sure I’d even heard of one of them….:hehe:
Last visit to Glastonbury was 20 years ago, I knew after that 5th visit I wouldn’t be back again. It was a struggle the first few times to catch everyone I wanted to see in different places, I wouldn’t go now if it was free…..
A day to never forget in 2003
