I notice some teams are playing their fixtures tonight and Shrewsbury have already played twice in the competition. What’s the reasoning our group starts 2 weeks after everybody else?

We are cooler than Shrewsbury that's why.

I don’t know why I ever doubted the legitimacy of this tournament
Re: Fixture News - Vertu Trophy
Largest attendance in the competition last night: 4,771 at Bradford v Grimsby.
Smallest attendance in the competition last night: 550 at Fleetwood v Accrington.
There were a number of crowds that were less than a thousand.
Re: Fixture News - Vertu Trophy
Isn't this trophy a bastardised Autoglass Trophy which was played in the 90s?
Only memorable due to playing the Jack's a couple of times, once on Sky where it pissed downand loads of moither on Sloper Road and prior to that at the Vetch a few days after the 91 FA Cup game where there was loads of moither.
Simpler times.

Wasn't there a boycott of this competition when they put in youth teans?

The crowds have almost always been dismal for this competition. Back in January 1997 we had a crowd of 793 for a home tie against Exeter. I was there. It was a freezing night, the game was terrible and we were 1-0 down with a couple of minutes to go when Carl Dale equalised. Everyone around me in the Grandstand was cursing him. There were no goals in extra time and we lost on penalties. I'm pretty sure it was 3-0 or something daft.
Re: Fixture News - Vertu Trophy
Are there still rules regarding the starting line up in regards to this? I seem to remember having to start 5 or 6 players from the previous league game to avoid a weak side being put out. Hopefully this is not still the case and we can play the reserves

Taken from wikipedia, so may or may not be up to date:
Eligibility criteria for players
For EFL clubs[2]
Minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player was one who met any of the following requirements:
Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture.
Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club who has made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions this season.
Any player with forty or more first-team starting appearances in their career, including International matches.
Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club.
A club can play any eligible goalkeeper in the competition.
Any player out on a long loan term at a National League, National League North, or National League South team can play as long as the loaning team agree to allow the player to return for the match.
For invited teams[2]
Minimum of six players in the starting line-up who are aged under 21 on 30 June 2025.
Maximum of two players on the team sheet who are aged over 21 and have also made forty or more senior appearances.

7pm kick-off at Exeter. That's something easy to miss with all the excitement!

Saw that, then when I clicked on his name on fotmob it said he was last at Tranmere in 2022.
Wiki though has him down as a player coach at Liverpool academy. Bit different.

Seen a few prem clubs do it now to 'guide' the youngsters on the pitch.
Re: Fixture News - Vertu Trophy
I saw an advert for Vertu last evening, I had no idea until then! Actually, I still don’t! Buying & selling cars?

I assumed it was the Vertu who did very high end mobile phones that used to come with a concierge service. They were priced starting at about £7k when I last saw them about 15 years ago, so not sure this'd be the level of tournament they'd be looking at!

I’m not sure about whether we have to register players or can use anyone. For example Luke Pearce, I don’t think he has a squad number but Shirley he’d be registered to play.

He would need to have a professional contract to play in the senior team. However, it is permitted to assign an academy player a squad number outside the transfer window, provided he is under 21.

I only knew that because I bought a car from Vertu a few months ago. They used to be Bristol Street Motors.
