Nathan Blake said on that new podcast he does with Rob Phillips that Joel will be picked in a Welsh squad before Rubin - he says Rubin's just not a Bellamy type player whereas Joel is.

I didn't agree with Blakey, but I could see where he was coming from - definitely think Joel is more of a Bellamy type player than last season's Rubin, but the older brother is a completely different player this season as evidenced by the runs he was making in the closing minutes on Saturday. Going back to the first day of training, was there any City fan who was not surprised when they heard that Rubin has won the bleep tests? Rubin's a different player this season - fitter, stronger and he seems to have discovered some aerial ability from somewhere. It'll be really interesting to see the seniopr squad when it's announced because I reckon there'll be at least one City player in there, not sure it'll be Rubin though as he's being played in a very attecking role by City and Wales have a lot of cover from the top two divisions for that position.
Absolutely. Although he's dropped down a level and League One is clearly far from good, Colwill's looking a good deal more effective in every aspect of his game, whether that's attacking or defending. I'm confident that if he had played with similar levels of effort, energy and application in the Championship, he'd have been far more effective there too.
Thing is, whenever any of us dared to criticise Colwill in recent seasons (and I know you did on a number of occasions last season), we got all sorts of complaints from those who were desperate to make excuses for him. It was a bit odd really, as he obviously wasn't performing to the levels he should have been capable of. With BBM's prompting, Colwill finally seems to be taking some real responsibility, both for his own performances and for what's going on around him. It's good to see. Let's hope he can maintain it.
Does anyone know what day Welsh squad is being announced

Joel Colwill should make the bench given his form and our options in midield
You may well be right, but you have to factor in the coach in charge calling the shots as well
We had people in charge for whatever reason, who were so far out of their depth in beggars belief how they were appointed in the first place
They’ll have a plan on how to play (albeit not a very good one) and players will conform to what’s asked of them, or give up shake their heads and think the guy in charge is clueless
Since and including Morison I doubt anyone would think we had the right person in charge, who could help develop players to their full potential
Maybe Colwill has got the right coach at present to get the best out of him now?
I still think the right appointment at the beginning of last season would have kept us up, let’s hope that the board actually appreciated what they have and he continues to improve Colwill and the others
I take on board all you are saying and agree with most of it. As you know, I was among Bulut’s and Riza’s fiercest critics - I thought they were both genuinely hopeless. Nevertheless, the players should take their share of responsibility for the team’s relegation and the truth is that Colwill’s performances last season were often nowhere near the required standard.
He’s undoubtedly come back from the summer break fitter and stronger, and that can’t be simply down to Brian Barry-Murphy. Colwill was apparently winning the bleep test within a week or so of BBM being appointed. As TOBW suggested, his whole on-field demeanour seems to have changed. The new manager and his coaching staff can certainly take some of the credit for that, but I reckon most of it is down to the player himself, and it’s not before time.
If we cast our minds back to Colwill’s first full season in 2021/22, he scored five Championship goals, he scored in the FA Cup against Liverpool at Anfield, he made his competitive debut for the Welsh senior side in Belarus and he scored his first international goal against the Czech Republic.
Back then, things were looking very promising. In June 2022, while Colwill was making Nations League appearances for Wales against Belgium and the Netherlands, I don’t think any of us would have believed that during the next three years he would score just two Championship goals, lose his place in the Wales set-up and would be starting the 2025/26 campaign in League One.
Every excuse possible has been made for him by some of this board’s contributors - injuries, growing pains, bad management, poor coaching, the wrong tactics, unsuitable positions, opponents allegedly doubling up on him, etc. At the end of the day, the simple truth is he just hasn’t delivered, which is why his managers at both club and international level haven’t been able to trust him.
I don’t think any of us have ever doubted his natural ability, but his fitness, application, work rate and decision-making have often been questionable. We have to bear in mind that the current league season is only five games old and the standard of the opposition in League One is far from great, but Colwill is certainly looking a different player right now and a much more effective one. Let’s hope he can maintain this level of form and it’s not just another flash in the pan.
I hope Bellamy picks the grand sum of zero of our boys. He's doing a great job but if he thinks picking our kids who are playing at league one level is what Wales or the players themselves need he's in cloud cuckoo land. Maybe a couple could be in and around it for the Canada friendly and would benefit from being in the squad but they don't need their heads turning right now. They don't need the pressure of playing qualifying games in different systems, with different demands on them and Swansea, Newport and Wrexham eager to get on their back after any mistakes. Let them develop under BBM in league one and allow players playing at a higher level to worry about Wales qualifying for a World Cup. Our youngsters time for that will come.
Sorba Thomas has apparently been outstanding for Stoke, getting reviews comparing him to Arnotovic.
After his game in Belgium, he’d be one of the first names on the sheet for me.
Would J. Colwill not fit that role better than Reuben?

Still no place for Rubin Colwill. Bellamy's not a fan, is he?
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey last played for Wales in September 2024
World Cup qualifier: Kazakhstan v Wales
Venue: Astana Arena, Astana Date: Thursday, 4 September Kick off: 15:00 BST
Coverage: Live on BBC One, S4C, iPlayer, BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru, the BBC Sport website and app, plus live text commentary.
Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has been left out of the squad for the World Cup qualifier away to Kazakhstan on 4 September.
The 34-year-old midfielder came off the bench last week for new club Pumas UNAM, playing his first minutes of football for the Mexican side since suffering a hamstring injury in Cardiff City's 2-1 victory over Luton on 11 March.
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu is also absent after the midfielder or defender suffered a knee injury in their 1-0 Premier League win against Everton in mid-August.
Rubin Colwill misses out on a call-up despite impressing for Cardiff in their unbeaten start to the season in League One and the EFL Cup.
But Bluebirds team-mates Dylan Lawlor and Ronan Kpakio are included, with Coventry City midfielder Kai Andrews the third uncapped player in Craig Bellamy's 25-man squad.
After facing Kazakhstan in Astana, Wales host Canada in a friendly five days later.
For the first time in more than a decade, Wrexham will provide players for the national side, with the Championship side's new signings Danny Ward, Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore all included.
Wales are second in Group J following their only defeat from their four games in this qualifying campaign so far, a 4-3 loss in Belgium in June.
They are a point behind North Macedonia who won 1-0 in Kazakhstan, while Belgium are third, three points further back but with two games in hand.
The match against Canada on 9 September (19:45 BST) marks a return to the Swansea.com Stadium for Wales, who last played there in November 2020 in a goalless draw against the USA during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The last time Wales played in front of a crowd in Swansea was in March 2013 against Croatia, in a match that featured current head coach Bellamy in attack.
