It doesn't matter what colour the government is, welsh red or brit blue, if people aren't booking tests after all the fuss on national radio and TV about people not being able to get them, how do you force them? The answer is, you can't!!!
I'm not suggesting the government sends out snatch squads to forcibly take people to testing stations, but other countries have succeeded in getting much much higher levels of regular testing carried out. The government isn't helpless in that situation - and it isn't down to some British and Irish cultural barriers either. The government managed to get very high levels of lock-down compliance from late March (too late, but still) through clear messaging and co-ordinated action by national and local authorities, employers and local voluntary organisations. It has failed to focus as well on testing. If other countries can do it - so can the UK (it is not just about England - although the devolved administrations have done a better job across the board)

What is the government to do? force people to go to the centres?
And just for the benefit of those who will immediately jump on me and say I'm just defending the Tories, this situation is equally true about testing centres in both countries. What is the point of Drakeford doubling the capacity when the capacity he has is only sparsely used?
Watch the programme, it's a disorganised mess they compared it with the German system where the start by taking all the details National Insurance numbers, numbers, addresses etc, if it's positive they lock them down quickly.
The tests in Germany are done by doctors and medical students, it just looked efficient.
it's not even hard, I'm not sure how they could feck it up so much with the money they've thrown at it!

Re: This government is a complete shambles
So is this one, but we have a chance to recifify that in November.
I have nothing against Corbyn, but it was obvious he was unelectable. How the Labour party agreed to a general election without replacing him I will never know. You have 4 more years of this imcompetent clown and his cronies.

Did you also not consider that many people are now getting tested in other locations, home tests, tests in care homes?

We went to the one in Newport, and it was very busy. It has become less busy as fewer people report symptoms, and as more people opt for home tests, or get tested in the workplace.

The thing that makes me laugh is the way that all the communist/socialist supporters on here lap up every bit of anti Government crap that is peddled by the media as if its gospel. Totally ignoring that all the media is interested in in sensationalising and magnifying the panic to serve their own ends. The BBC is one of the worst offenders, as evidenced by the way they ‘balance’ the audience and questions on their weekly Question Time programmes (not).

The thing that makes me laugh is how all the right wing fascists on here believe every little piece of bullshit the government propaganda machine churns out, defends it blindly to the hilt, and constantly attack the media, particularly the BBC, for its "fake news". I think we all know some of the worse offenders on here. One wonders how deaf and blind to the evidence they can be.

So if you didn't vote Labour at the last election you are a right wing fascist? We've had Tory scum and apologist and now fascist. Some people are so one eyed and bigoted they can't see anything but Labour good, Tory bad. And Yes I'm not one who supports everything the Tories do but still shudder at the thought of having a government led by Corbyn, Abbot and McDonald. Funny how the Labour supporters on here blamed the media for losing the election.

I didn't blame the media, I blamed the electorate. Fortunately seeing the reality of the situation rather than the right wing fantasy that was projected, many will come to their senses I'm sure and never make the same silly mistake again.

The testing centre in abercynon had piles of staff stood around last week. Think they were using their bodies for heat they were stood that close together. Didn't see one person enter!!

The last election was about getting Brexit done. The Tories were making a mess of it with a dithering Theresa May and were there for the taking.
What did labour offer...an extreme left wing leader who was equally dithering, in the pocket of Momentum and tarnished by
antiseminetisim.

The Labour defeat was all about no leadership or direction, very similar to what we have now.A front bench who you would not let them be in charge of looking after a pet for a day.

You are clearly a tory and have admitted such on here despite personally being affected by this disgraceful governments attack on the sick and disabled
It amazes me you can vote for them really

Then you are a fool.Sludge.
Voting for them ( with some reluctance particularly last time) when you feel the alternative is even worse does not make you a tory.
As I have told you many times in the past the attack on the sick and disabled started under labour around 2007 when they replaced Incapacity Benefit and Severe Disablement Allowance with ESA and expanded the interview system they had already introduced on a random basis for IB and DLA.
This left an open door which the conservatives kicked open to do the same sort of thing to DLA (now PIP) of course.
If Labour had had a decent leader with decent policies in the last election sai would at least have abstained (I believe there should be a "none of the above " box at elections to show the idiots on all sides what we think of them)m

Re: This government is a complete shambles
Missed out from my previous answer
I have many misgivings about the way things have been done during the pandemic not just by Boris but by all the home nations.
Indeed many nations have made mistakes during the crisis , even Germany but it will take a proper independent enquiry afterwards.
Not the knee jerk yahoo politics of left and right that goes on on this board and elsewhere.

Well if you are telling me you have voted for the tories several times then you are clearly a tory
With regard to the benefits system , the introduction of esa was not perfect but it wasnt until the election of Cameron's mob that the game changed . Tests became annual or every two years and when previously carried out by doctors were handed over to capita etc . It was the tories who brought in the insane notion that people with MS can get better and stopped the provision of lifetime awards that were usual with DLA
Duncan smith and his mob were savage and have since ignored all party select committee findings that both the current ESA and PIP policies are not fit for purpose and have even tried to ignore judicial review .
Yet you have experience of this bunch of chancers , you know the horror stories yet you back them ?
I think its astounding
Good luck if you run into trouble , you are going to need it

Well.if Labour hadn't voted in a terrorist sympathiser as leader............
I have voted Liberal,SDP, Liberal Democrat over the years.
And Labour in the council elections.
Several times in all cases.
ESA Work Capability Assessments were carried out by ATOS from the start by healthcare professionals hired by ATOS not just doctors.
I am pretty sure it was every couple of years from the start.
it was ATOS who carried out the DLA assesments in 2007 when my wife had her last DLA renewal. It was more random then and she wasn't interviewed but I read the same horror stories as we hear these days.
My wife is now on PIP, not without a Mandatory reconsideration but she is getting the full amount now.

Yes I did, sorry about that, but I notice you did not comment on what else I said - I think it was something like 15,000 out of almost 114,000 in the latest figures that were traced by the 25,000 new recruits.
The impression given, which seems a fair one to me, is of a Government obsessed by targets, but with little in place to co-ordinate things efficiently once they are reached.

I see PHE is getting the flack for much of what has gone wrong with tracking& tracing, including the farce of developing an app from scratch.
A surprise to me but apparently the Government has no authority over the independence of Public Health England.
Meanwhile at home, the Senedd has asked Ryanair to postpone its Cardiff flight(s) to Faro and Malaga on Friday as Wales still has 5 mile travel guidance in place, and travellers will have to quarantine for 14 days on return as that's the rules in Wales.
So two days before the flight from a WAG owned airport the Senedd jumps into action.

Re: This government is a complete shambles
What amazes me with people like Sludge (and there are others) is how one dimensional their thinking is. They simply can't accept that Labour can do anything wrong. Instead people on here are treated like something on the bottom of their shoe and you only have to vote Tory a few times and you are Tory scum. For the record Labour's report on the election defeat was clear but some just simply can't accept why people voted Tory even though the Labour hierarchy seemed to. The reasons were:
1. The unpopularity of Corbyn
2. Confused Brexit policy (so elected the architect as their new Leader)
3.Unrealistic manifesto and:
4.Disorganised national campaign.
Here's the link from the Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...lection-defeat
Of course Sludge and some others ignore all this and revert to statements such as how could the electorate vote Tory and it's the electorate's fault. He dismisses people who voted Tory and keeps saying the BBC's political editor is a Tory. I didn't realise that especially as Kuensberg required a bodyguard at the 2017 Tory conference for her perceived anti Tory views. She did criticise Corbyn but was not alone and was even defended by Yvette Cooper.
The evidence is clear from the Labour Party itself. So let's stop the name calling and just let people vote how they vote without criticising individuals for their decisions.
I could vote Labour again but will have to see how things will pan out over the next 4 years. Starmer's made a good start even though I thought he was a bad choice.
Like some other Tory voters on here I am not locked into one political party but vote for a party on their policies. As for the last election I simply could not vote for any party led by Corbyn, Abbot and McDonald with Momentum lurking in the background.

It works both ways though. There are numerous posters on here (and people in society) so entrenched in their political ideologies that they can only see good in their party of choice and bad in the other.
This isn't a Labour-only problem... and if you think it is, then you're a part of the problem in the discussion.

Re: This government is a complete shambles
I actually think sludge will be happy if the Labour scum lose their hold on the Welsh government next year because then he will have even more to complain about!
Nothing that goes wrong will ever be Labour's fault and he can keep telling everyone that Labour wouldn't have fecked thinks up with the absolute certainty that no one will be able to prove him wrong, because they won't be in power.
It's sad but I really think it's true. He wants to be one of the oppressedrighteous minority. He feeds on it. :hehe:
