Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
mehmet confirms club concerned about whereabouts of Sala, and awaiting confirmation.
Spoke to Jim White on talksport.
Surely if he wasn’t on there they would know where he was and not be concerned.
Gutted

How incredibly sad. I'm very shocked.

Me too. I've got a horrible feeling about this.

Mehmet Dalman: “We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night. We are awaiting confirmation before we can say anything further. We are very concerned for the safety of Emiliano Sala."

Horrific news, absolutely awful, really hope they can be found safe somehow.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
Shocking news.
Was moved earlier watched on BBC news that Tony from Sheffield has been granted his commemorative fly past for the WW2 airmen who crashed 75 yrs ago and sickened within minutes to hear of this desperately sad news.
Thoughts and prayers with his and pilot's family.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
Just spoke to a mate who volunteers for RNLI and he said it will be Lifeboats searching as the weather is worsening so they will be doing a box search which takes time,*especially if it's getting rough. Which it does in that area. As the aircraft disappeared off radar it will be a big area to search so the lifeboats will take several hours to cover the area

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
This is surreal, you obviously hear of things like this but this is so close to home, Cardiff City are part of all our families and Emiliano is a new addition to the fold, he's one of ours.

Unfortunately, the plane seemed to have ditched before 9pm last night so things look very bleak and enormously depressing.

Plus with waves getting bigger a small plane, even if still intact, would be difficult to spot in the troughs, a person bobbing on the sea would be even harder to spot. Ideally they need helicopters or spotter planes, but that's not always possible especially with bad weather. Good luck to them.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
Lets Hope...
BBC says plane lost contact near Casquets lighthouse - if there is a lighthouse there must be some land of some description - hopefully it was not a crash and the occupants have managed to get to land and are awaiting rescue.
Fingers Crossed.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
This is horrific news. Hopefully there are survivors.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
Friend works for BA and is pretty much obsessed with planes. Seems to think the light aircraft stands no chance with a collision to the sea, and even doubts the were flotation devices on board

It’s really lookin bad for Emiliano Sala and everyone else on board, the plane requested and emergency landing at 5000 feet to land on one of the Channel Islands, soon after there was an emergency call at 2000, after this the plane went off the radar.
Just saw this on twitter. I don't know if that's true. Shocking.

10.02 French police confirm Sala was on board
French police have now confirmed that Sala was on board the plane.
Guernsey Police said that the Piper Malibu aircraft disappeared at about 8.30pm en route from Nantes to Cardiff.
The pilot was the only other person on board.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
According to the BBC Guernsey report "the flight disappeared off radar near the Casquets lighthouse, infamous among mariners as the site of many shipwrecks, 13km north-west of Alderney". That doesn't sound good - presumably quite a rocky area then.

Just got to pray he's managed to get himself on a rock and is there! Just need a miracle that he and the pilot are OK.

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
Nantes have had their game postponed tomorrow, looking extremely bad for all involved. :frown:

Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
I just can't believe it. If he's gone down where it's reported and survived somehow, they would have had to swam to St Anne?

At half eight last night the seas in Pembrokeshire were as rough as hell . No chance at all .

Devastating and shocking news.
-
Re: Light aircraft gone down from Nantes to Cardiff near Guernsey last night?
This is truly shocking news. His chances of survival (and the pilot) must be close to zero...dark, cold, sharp rocks with quite a tidal range. Even if they did make the coast there aren't many places to make easy landfall.

28 year old lad, his poor family. If it’s gutting for us imagine what it’s like for them.
