Re: The Welsh youth thread...
This is Welsh squad for the 2016 Victory Shield. Notice now that sore losers England no longer take part in the tournament as they were worried about the indelible psychological scars that beatings from the mighty Welsh would inflict on them.
Great news for Cardiff City. Once again Cardiff are the dominant team when it comes to numbers in a Welsh youth team. Well done to the Cardiff academy!

Hopefully there'll be a youtube stream with very good Saes commentary like there was for the France game. I'll post that too if I find one.

Plenty of live streams on youtube for anyone who's interested. One of these should work. Should hopefully be English commentary on one of the youtube streams...

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
Game about to start. Going off the faces in the anthem, I think the only Cardiff starter is Harris. Think Aaron Lewis has come in for the very impressive Coxe and Cole DaSilva in for Abbruzzese.
Looks like Page is taking the tournament seriously with few changes for the rest though.
English commentary...

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
0 - 0 half time. Looks like very hot conditions. Bit of a sloppy game.

Subs:
L. Thomas, Abbruzzese, Coxe, Mepham, Ovenden, K. Evans, Humphries, Cullen, Roberts.

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
A 1-0 win for Wales thanks to a controversial late penalty which saw Bahrain also be reduced to ten. The commentator thought Wales got lucky with the decision, but I thought it was a penalty, the double punishment of a red card seemed harsh to me though.
Only watched the last twenty minutes, but Bahrain looked the better team to me until the penalty award.
Mark Harris was the only City player involved and he didn't do a great deal in the bit I saw except pick up a yellow card.

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
It seems at all levels, Wales's playing standard is rises or falls with the standard of the opposition. It was an incoherent performance in tough conditions - high wind and temperatures. The game was even, but Wales had a lot more quality and it told in the end. Think it was one of those very useful learning exercises.
From a City perspective, we might see our full backs get back in the team and get a shot against the Ivory Coast. I'd expect to see Tyler Roberts get his first start if he's fit. Harris may be one of the players to make way if so.

Toulon Tournament: Wales U20s were not at their best - Page
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40140892
Intermediate teams manager Rob Page says Wales Under-20s were under par despite a 1-0 win over Bahrain in the Toulon Tournament.
Daniel James' late penalty gave Wales a first win in the competition after an opening draw against hosts France.
Page's side face Ivory Coast in their final Group B game on Monday with the top two teams in the group advancing.
"It's always a good sign when you win games of football and you haven't been at your best," said Page.
"We probably played better against France and didn't win.
"If someone would have said before the tournament that we'd be two games in and with four points going into the third game I'd snap their hand off.
"It's our first time in this tournament and we've been up against excellent opposition against France and a different challenge against Bahrain."
Wales are second after their win over Bahrain with next opponents Ivory Coast top of Group B after they beat France.

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
Off topic, but currently watching England's under 20 QF against Mexico on Eurosport (0 - 0 ht). You know the game has officially gone mad when talking about an England U20 forward Solanke who has just been transferred from Chelsea to Liverpool citing lack of first team football and on a 20k a week contract. Talk about the haves and the have not's!!
-
Re: The Welsh youth thread...
England won 1 - 0 (Solanke)! Through to semi's. England captain Lewis cook was stand out player on the pitch for me. Bournemouth midfielder - cheeky loan bid for next season! Very mature display in middle of the park and excellent use of the ball throughout.

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
Cheers Emjay. Toulon had slipped my mind the today and was probably going to forget Wales play their last group game in just over an hour.

1-0 at half time and I'd say that's the least Wales deserve. Ivory Coast have had quite a bit of possession, but haven't done anything with it yet, while there are certainly opportunities for Wales on the break - both the City full backs are doing okay as well.

Yes, very solid all round. George Thomas and Broadhead scaring them a lot. Tyler's talent is obvious, but his decision making is a bit off today I feel. I do like the look of Daniel James. I think Swansea knicked him from Hull in the first week they became Category One. Pilling's distribution much better today. Looking like a very good all rounder. Just wish he was 7 foot tall!

2-2 ft. Wales equalised seconds before the end of injury time. Two goals for George Thomas of Coventry City.

Unlucky not to win that I feel. Ivory Coast had one or two excellent spells in the second half, but the result isn't fair I feel. The ref really bodged giving a free kick over a clear penalty too. Shame as another game, or two, could be really beneficial to gelling this team further.
Overall, extremely positive. We leave the tournament unbeaten with an entirely new team on and off the pitch, that's terrific I'd say. A very impressive first outing for Rob Page.
Well done Wales!

Agreed, but are we out? On the page I was looking at it says we're into a play-off. Thought Wales deserved more from the game too; the pitch didn't seem to help any attempt to knock the ball around.

I've jumped the gun here. Apparently we need other games to go our way. I've taken this quote from another board...
"Need Scotland to not beat Indonesia and Brazil not to beat the Czech to go through so at least the last minute goal has given us some chance."

Seems improbable that we will go through now, but fingers crossed.

Re: The Welsh youth thread...
I agree that we were unlucky yesterday - Wales were the far better side in the first half and they had good chances to score after the break before their late equaliser. However, the odds have to be on us not qualifying for the Semi's now and it will be a bit galling if England and Scotland both make it through. Still, the performances in the two matches we drew in particular offered a lot of hope for the future and I'd like to think that we've been watching four or five who will eventually make it into the senior side over the past week or so.
