we Love Oct, always our fav time to go, except its only for 2 weeks, the plus side of Aug is that we can do more than 2 weeks which i know is decadent but the more you do, the more you want from the place :hehe:

Not so fussed on Braddicks. When I was last there some of the vans/chalets looked a bit ropey. Surf Bay and Beachside adjacent to each other and run by sane people. All good sea views and adjacent to beach.

If caravan parks etc open for families would it be a danger for the bar/club facilities to open as well? I’d imagine the sites and beaches will be packed with kids to whom social distancing, once outside, would be, understandably, totally ignored, they’ll be playing, rolling about, jumping all over each other as kids do. If this is deemed safe surely the evening entertainment places would be no more dangerous.

To be honest the campsites I go to I see more adults rolling about jumping on each other than kids, particularly after 6pm:hehe:

From what I gleaned form Drakeford's comments yesterday, he's considering a number of options but crucially mentioned "before the end of the summer..".

I'm no fan of his so perhaps out of step with the general Welsh public, but it seems to me he wants to maintain as many restrictions for as long as he can. I think that we could well reach a situation in a couple of weeks where in England you can fly off to P.I.G.S. without quarantine restrictions on the way back, whilst here in Wales you won't be able to drive the 5+ miles to the airport..

He is a slight concern as I’ve said countless times. The caravan parks have been given the nod to open on July 10, shops on June 18, yet you expect people not to travel more than five miles all summer? That’s not going to work is it.....no valley folks coming into Cardiff? Rightio Clive

The thought at the moment from WG is to allow people to travel to holiday homes etc, but to require them to stay within a 5 mile radius.

Which is illogical. I won't be able to drive from Cardiff to Porthcawl and walk on the front, but if I own/rent a holiday home in Trecco Bay, I can..

That’s sound ok and I could handle that fine if I came down, can reach all my usual spots and 24 hr Tesco etc....but if I came from London for a week, I might want to explore a little more.

I did say this to you a while ago but Heddlu are turning people back from Pembs, even those from inside Wales. Always at Pemblewin. So either wait until we get another announcement end of next week or you may be turned back.

Possibly a silly question for the initiated: if you pay for an electrical hook-up at a camp site is it a daily one-off payment or do you have to pay for the amount of electric you use as well?

The campsites I've been on include electric in the hook up price. You can get a pitch without a hook up, that's normally cheaper.

one off payment, but will be more than a pitch that doesnt have hook-up, in my experience its nornally about £5 more

if you just want a grass pitch, its even cheaper again

by all accounts some sites in france all pitches cost the same, then you just pay for the electricity you use, you just buy credit for the meter

which would work out better, as we have camped with other families and one never wants a hook-up, so has to camp in another area, which they always moan about being isolated, for the sake of a fiver per night i have never understood it

The Caravan and Motorhome Club, which is one of UK biggest is opening in England on July 4th, but their sites in Wales stay shut.

Mark Drakeford eluded to the fact that they are considering allowing self contained holiday lets to open, and I hope he says more next week. The larger caravan parks often have permanently sited caravans with their own self contained facilities, so hopefully he will include these sites in the first phase of opening.

I think we will have to wait a while for Wales to ease lockdown on sites that are for touring caravans, as these generally use communal facility blocks.

I think he is very optimistic if he thinks people will drive maybe hundreds of miles to get to their holiday let, and then be willing to spend their holiday within a five mile radius

Not sure they've thought this through. You cannot open holiday cottages and self-catered flats with the 5 mile limit still in place. In practice this would mean someone could drive 200 miles from England to a cottage in Tenby, have a lovely week on the beach and drive 200 miles back while someone living in Cardiff would be prohibited from visiting exactly the same beach on a day trip.

The 5 mile limit is clearly 'flexible', the point being people should stay within a local area to reduce chances of spread. For someone like me, living in Pembrokeshire, local is 15/20 miles. I don't see any problem with people staying in a cottage in Little Haven, travelling and sightseeing over much of Pembs. I havent been stopped by Heddlu yet, and I dont expect to.

The 'flexible' 5 mile limit is costing me hard cash. I booked a site in England last year and kept the booking live hoping that the site would be open for my July holiday. Good news is that it will be open and Ive paid for the holiday. Bad news is that I live in Cardiff 30 miles from border with England so well outside the 5 mile travel limit.

No refund possible as the site is open. If I lived in Chepstow the Wales rules would allow me to travel to England as its local.

But you won’t get stopped going to England, I really doubt you will coming back. Sense will have prevailed, one hopes by early July anyway. So many people will be on the rd police won’t be able to stop everyone

I hope yo are right. Motorhomes and caravans are very conspicuous on the roads though and a target for the Heddlu
