Higher cases in 18 to 30 year folk ,who are now out and about more ,along with much more testing will result in the increase in cases, I'm guessing this is all down to behavior and care when out and about ,when shopping now or in town very few are wearing masks , find it strange with the caution of the Welsh Gov we don't seem to have pushed masks use more , and introduced a tough testing arrangement at Cardiff Airport for arrivals and departures , doesn't the Welsh Government own the airport .??

It's almost self fulfilling.

There is definitely a spike which is causing more people to get tested, which is going to raise numbers above the threshold.

I think a local lockdown is somewhat certain soon.

I’m not surprised with this at all. I’ve regularly been the only one wearing a mask when I’ve been out. Hopefully people start to wise up now.

I never thought caerphilly county made much sense - I doubt people living in Rhymney have anything at all to do with Caerphilly, whereas the next towns east or west on the heads of the valleys from rhymney are both in different counties

Always thought this, Caerphilly borough is a bit of a strange one with Caerphilly and Rhymney (granted in the same valley but must be near 20 miles of minor roads away) and then areas like Newbridge and Crumlin as well.

There’s a stretch on the heads of the valleys road where within about half an hour or so you must pass through 5 Welsh local authority areas (whilst skirting another one).

I think Caerphilly borough was one that was cobbled together, largely out of the old Rhymney and Islwyn district councils. They don't have much in common with each other so it's a contrivance

Caerphilly town has its natural hinterland up to about as far north as Hengoed and everything east or west is quite out of the area.

The weird thing now is that Caerphilly is conveniently regarded as Gwent for the purposes of public services (eg Police and Health) while historically it's always been in Glamorgan. It's likely that the reason for this is that Islwyn borough (always been in Gwent) has been bolted on to it.

I popped up to see my mum in Barry recently, got out of the van to get some fuel, popped my mask on ( as 99% people do down here ) and i then realised i was the only one with a mask on

when i leave the house its " Keys, phone, hand gel and mask ", its a strange new world

I don't even carry a wallet anymore. Just one debit card. Pop it in, pop it out and wipe it off. Ooh err missus.

i have 2 cards in the back of my phone case, but dont even use them as just use apple pay now :thumbup:

has contact less payment caught up in the US yet, i was very surprised 2 years ago, hardly anywhere did contact less payments, infact even entering a PIN was rare, they were still using the terminal you had to sign your name on

My family comes from Risca (and some still live there).
Caerphilly doesn't give a shit about maters local to them.

Monmouthshire would gain eastern Cardiff and enlarge its population a little more too.

I do have a sort of affection for the historic counties, probably due to old maps and county cricket.

I didn't realise the old monmouthshire came that far across, but yeah rumney, llanrumney and St mellons would all be in a different county.

Would make sense to move that border a bit closer to newport if the historic monmouthshire / gwent were ever resurrected, past marshfield even.

I wonder what the advantages / disadvantages are of having fewer large counties or many small ones?

I get daggers if I try and enter a shop over the bridge without a mask. Because its not enforced here it's not a "habit" as such so I always forget then have to run back to the works van to try and find a disposable.

Agree, baffling. Coupled with the increasingly obvious lack of social distancing results in the Caerphilly situation. I'm surprised there aren't many more such situations across Wales actually. Maybe just a matter of time?

The Rhymney River is the historical border between the old Glamorgan and Monmouthshire.

I would guess about 20% of places use ApplePay. You can insert a card and not enter a pin or sign about 50% of the time.
