All 5 teams have to go through qualifying stages, but if they don't qualify through them, the best two qualify as the host countries.
This is because England don't want to play friendly matches and land up like Germany did when they played friendlies,

Get used to it, the Welsh public are soft and weak. I can imagine there would be protests and riots in the streets if any other country had to pay for a neighbours transport project with no benefit to them whatsoever. Embarrassing really but that's Wales in a nutshell when it comes to these things.
Back on euro28, it would be a great outcome for Wales if we can host the opening match and it should be a semi final, Wembley butchered the last final it had so it's lucky to even be considered, let alone get both semi finals as well.

Casement Park in Belfast is an interesting one, given its history. I was talking to a mate from Belfast last night. He used to live within 3 minutes of the ground and used to watch GAA there with his Dad. He couldn't believe it might host international football, but is determined to re-visit if it does. Be interesting to see if they manage to rise to all the funding and other challenges.

At least we’ll be able to see some decent teams in the capital city.

True. Watching teams like Swansea play has been tough going when you follow the No.1 team in Wales.
Re: Euro 2028 coming to Wales
Belfast isn't going to be hosting any matches now. There was always a doubt that Casement Park would be ready in time.

The Times are reporting that its matches will be going to Wembley (of course), Dublin, Glasgow and Cardiff.

Missed this at the time, but does that mean that if 3 qualified by rights the other 2 would be given a free pass as hosts? Or does it mean that if 2 or more qualify that’s it? Right now you would probably only expect England to qualify so that would mean best 2 finishers from the other 4 based on group results. Is that right?

Yes, that's my understanding. And as not great as the other 4 home nations are right now it would be very unusual for only England to get through given that half of Europe ends up going now, I'd be very surprised if there aren't at least 4 home nations in the final tournament when all is said and done. The last three Euros since expansion have seen 2, 3 and 4 home nations respectively.

Good point. The euros just gone saw E&S qualify. If that was repeated there would be those 2 plus the best 2 of the remaining 3 from qualifying groups. Have I got that right? Would be heart-breaking if that opening game in Cardiff was played without us.
