The stadium in Delhi where England played Afghanistan was stunning. Much more interesting than some of the massive bowls theyve built.

yes that was a nice one as well, as you say these bowls are to similar where ever they are built

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
South Africa now 89-5 against the Netherlands
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
I was fancying South Africa to win the thing until the way they completely fell apart in the closing overs of the Netherlands innings - they could go on to win today, but they’ve been very sloppy.
Just as I type that, South Africa lose a big wicket - 145-7.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Massive result this for the Netherlands, they’ve won this now

Very big game for both teams! You would expect England to make changes as they haven’t performed yet

Stokes and Willey will probably come in. Possibly Moeen Ali aswell depending on the pitch.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
If this was a boxing match, the ref would probably stop it. Englands bowlers totally unable to put the ball in the right areas. It will need a miracle for England to get 400, especially one batsman light.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
SA pulvarisiing England's attack, last ten overs going for nearly 14 an over!
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
England 24-3 chasing 400 - this must be one of the feeblest title defences ever..
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
68-6 now. Embarrassing. Why on earth did Buttler elect to bowl/field first in 35 degree heat and high humidity. The team looks like a bunch of asthmatic pensioners. Their net run rate after this thrashing is going to be hilarious.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Disappointed South Africa didn’t enforce the follow-on :hehe:

Good question, I can’t even attempt an answer to it.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
todays game delayed because of fog

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Looks like the back of beyond. Is there any street lighting up there?

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Afghanistan win big against Pakistan.
England now bottom - 10th out of 10.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
England over 30s making a Sri Lanka attack that has gone around the park against everyone else look like world beaters - Bairstow and Malan out for inconsequential run a ball twenties and thirties which this team are specialising in lately andRoot run out in daft fashion, Buttler lucky to get to eight before he gave it away and nowLivingstone LBW playing across the line.
Truly shocking stuff.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Stokes extremely lucky there, reverse sweep and a reversed decision after ultra edge picked up the slightest of nicks.
Stokes needs to hang around and hold the innings together not go fashioning Twenty20 shots.

So has the 100 been a success then??
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
All of the commentators saying that Woakes was out, but I don’t think it should be the third umpire’s decision to make when the images he’s looking at are so blurred.
Yet another bad shot though - you’d think England would need to double their current score of 124-7 to have a chance.

I think the answer to that depends on how much money it makes if you’re the ECB, but, on cricket grounds, I’ll never be convinced it was needed.

Totally agree with you there, it's added nothing to the game but it does bring the funds in
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
A farcical run out now, it goes from bad to worse.
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
last wicket sums up a team that thinks they are unbeatable

 thats all it does, as far as cricket it does nothing, franchise will kill the game unless something changes
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
After the last game I didn't think it could get any worse but it just has. Total lack of application and apparent total disinterest in winning the game. All this against one of the poorest sides in the world. Over to the bowlers but don't hold your breath. Over within 25 overs would be my guess.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Wow , England’s XI who played Sri Lanka at the 2019 World Cup, eight of the players are participating in this match :yikes:

No one under 30 in the side today and the ‘future of England cricket’, Harry Brooks, dropped. Atkinson left out as well. Inept managing, captaining and tactics. Really there needs to be a big clear out - Malan, Ali, Woakes, Curran, need to go immediately.

Seems like this team are all too friendly with Stokes/Butler and get picked because they’re mates rather than ability. As if Woakes , Curran and Ali would bowl any team out in the sub continent :hehe:

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Thank goodness we won 4-0 on Tuesday!
This tournament is going on far too long, with so many one-sided games, but I didn't expect England to be the victim of some of them! Superannuated and arrogant is the way they have played. Pathetic.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
The experts on Sky were saying that England are just a good team experiencing a horrendous month with some saying that they would still back them to finish in the top four if the tournament was starting this morning. To me, that is the sort of arrogant and complacent thinking that has got England into the humiliating position they now find themselves in.
The lack of fifty over games played by England between 2019 and now is being offered up as an excuse for their failure by some within and outside of the England camp and yet they wasted so many of the games they played in the lead up to this tournament rotating their squad and including players who had no chance of making the party to India.
England made the fifty over game a priority about ten years ago, but, having made their way to the top by 2019, they've ignored it while presumably thinking they'd cracked it and the game would not evolve as it constantly does - since 2019, the pursuit of money through the Hundred seems to have been the priority.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Finally, an exciting game.- South Africa need twenty one to beat Pakistan with two wickets and plenty of overs left.

When players play more T20 or Hundred cricket, then move to play 50 over games their mindset is still on the shorter formats. 50 overs gives batters time to play themselves in but they just haven't been doing that.
Yes, great game at last. 1 wkt or 11 runs.

South Africa win by one wicket after an umpire’s call LBW decision went in their favour.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
England 30-0 chasing 230 about a quarter of a n hour ago,now 39-4 - how can so many good batsmen be in such awful form at the same time?
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
awful form or believing they are unbeatable with all the hype of the team, you can carry one batsmen playing in this manner but they all are playing shots like its that pathetic one hundred competition the 50 over format has been forgotten about lately and its showing now
-
Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Turned on to watch today, more out of lack of anything better to do than hope of a win. Pleasantly surprised by bowling and fielding display but now normal service has resumed by totally inept batting display and 81 for 6. Root out first ball, Stokes contributed nothing again, Buttler played all around a spinner, Bairstow and Malan poor shots. Just not interested by the seem of it. Just an ordinary batting display would win this easily. They should come home after this game now.

Re: Unofficial Cricket World Cup Thread
Seems the England team, like the rest of us, have lost interest.
Gone on far too long.
