They did that for a reason - we only make 8 millions tonnes per year - chinese do 800 millions tonnes, how much other stuff do we import from china ?
Ideally reduce the need for Chinese goods and materials.
When Drakeford was building the new link road down the docks it was constructed with steel from Germany - even though over the road Allied steel Wire produced the same product.

This. If they were serious about electric furnace they would have kept one blast furnace working whilst building the former. Otherwise what are they going to do with the remaining 1000 employees whilst the construction goes on? Maybe they intend to start construction immediately - I have no idea how long it will take - could it be ready by September? Seems a very short time to me!
