I've thought of those old wrestling shows I couldn't get enough of for a short while thirty years ago now and again while I've watched the coverage from America of the election in the last few months - it's all been a bit cartoonish and way too biased for me. I knew about Fox, but, to be honest, they're no more biased than CNN and as for the Podcasts I'd watched, it was hard to find any objectivity. There was one especially called Meidas Touch I think which churned out about five videos a day and you could guarantee that the first one of the day would begin with the words "it's been an absolutely terrible morning for the Donald Trump campaign" - it was ridiculous stuff and full of holes and/or lies. Liberals have a tendency to look down their noses at people and act all superior, but, from what i saw on mainstream media and on social media as far as election coverage was concerned, they were just as bad as the Republicans in many ways.
I put a thread on here months ago asking where was the best place to get some considered and not completely biased coverage of the election and was pointed towards The Rest is Politics USA which I always made a point of watching. I was always struck by Katty Kaye never seeming fully convinced by the Democratic campaign even when it was going well for them and that's one of the reasons why I was never fully confident of a Harris win.
Having had a bit more time to think about it now, I'd say you can't avoid a feeling that large swathes of America were not willing to accept a, black, woman President, but there's more to it than that - rightly or wrongly, the "downtrodden" think that the Biden Government did not do enough for them.
Trump is past his sell-by-date, but he does have some formable people behind him who could torch a lot of the current bureaucracy.

Formidable people like a number of Silicon Valley billionaires by the sound of it. That’s one of the things I don’t get about your lot, you talk about things like big pharma being behind parties of the centre/left and I think that’s a fair point to a degree, but you don’t seem to have a problem with a party that has gone much further to the right in the last quarter of a century being in the hands of a group which includes some of the richest people in the world.

I've never really understood the logic behind chasing celebrity endorsements, its one easy way to look out of touch

I do think the Democrats message was pretty confusing.
A couple of weeks ago I saw Kamala Harris with a talking about "change" when she has been VP for years. Then talking about "Hope" but again that plays more into the change candidate. I think the whole Nazi/Fascist/Garbage thing harmed them and it does fit in with a general sense that people feel looked down upon and patronised. On the economy, whilst it's growing well, they couldn't tackle the fact prices rose and stayed high (an international problem but still a factor). I also think the whole "woke" (whatever it is) is now boring people and understandably so.
The celebrity adverts were so cringe too. I saw one with Will Ferrel and it was so bad.
I'm not sure her as a person was also that strong a pull. She seems a nice lady to me and wholly qualified for the job, but I sensed there was less to her than Hilary Clinton and certainly less aura or confidence than Obama.
I think this election, with a similar change very likely in Canada next year and with Europe swinging to the right, will mark something of an era ending.

I'm not sure that the garbage/fascist thing made a difference. It was about 10% of what came the other way from Trump's side, and those people would have voted for Trump regardless of Biden's garbage comment.
I think it's more simple; that a growing majority of the country wants what Trump was offering. I agree it's probably a continuing sign of how the world has been shifting in the last decade or so, and I doubt that's a good prospect for living in peace.

Obama did in 2008, but don't know about the Supreme Court. Easy enough to check though.
