Corrected for you :hehe:
The only grannies I have had contact with over the last 20 years were on plenty of fish 60+ and I did very well I can tell you.

I don't think we should over egg the pudding in terms of young people's support for Reform. From what I've seen it is at best 20-25% which is obviously only a quarter of them. At the same time it is quite different to UKIP or the Brexit party.
Few things at play I suspect;
1 - People have tried Tories and now Labour and (so far) they taste the same. Labour have to change things to appeal more. If there is a natural rebellious nature to young people then that won't manifest itself in picking the Tories or Labour, it will be seen in Green, Reform, Plaid etc.
2 - Farage, like him or not, is a pretty engaging character and he does have a sense of humour and speaks well. I've seen quite a few light hearted posts from him on tiktok and the like so Reform has obviously tapped into things there
3 - Reform do seem kinda fresh in a sense that UKIP never did. That was all "keep the pound" and the like whereas Reform are more "Sweep the tired old politicians away". They do come across as far fresher than Farages previous parties.
4 - Reform are talking about housing and rightly so. Young people are screwed big time on this and whilst there are many causes, very high immigration absolutely is a big part of it. By (rightly in my opinion) tying it to housing and general quality of life, there will inevitably be some appeal
5 - I think we are past peak "woke". We can all disagree about the word but I think we generally know what we are talking about. Younger people I have spoken to will often mock it. Theyve been at the forefront of censorship at unis and the like and I think there is a genuine feeling that things have gone to far and are a bit joyless, don't like being told what to say and think etc.
6 - Loads of Reform candidates I've seen are pretty young themselves. I think the Humber mayoral candidate is some local boxer in his 20s or something. Again, whatever their image is, "stuffy" most definitely isn't it
But yeah, at the very best I doubt you'll ever get more than one third of 18-24 year olds voting Reform anywhere so let's not over do it. But things do feel different and it's a fact that many populist right parties in Europe are more popular with the young than the old.
Thanks for taking the time to answer like that, but, in essence, all you’re saying is there’s something about housing and they’re considered as something new and a bit different. You’re right to point out that the numbers supporting them are still pretty small and i don’t think anyone would be batting an eyelid if such figures were recorded for, say, the Greens or Plaid Cymru.
However, one thing I’ve learned in the past decade is the degree of the media’s fascination with the far right -it’s there in the mainstream media, but I find the internet and places like what I’ll always call Twitter really concerning given the lack of regulation on there - we’re creating a real hornet’s nest, not just on the right, and nobody can say with any confidence how it will pan out because we’ve never been here before.

Stay at home and don't vote or vote reform .....aka right wing trump , Musk defenders on here .....and this is what you will get
If there was a choice between voting conservative and the reform idiots , and that was the only choice , I would have to vote conservative to keep these xenophobic nutters out
I certainly wouldn't vote reform or... pretend I didnt vote reform but spend the last few years saying yeah but no farage , Musk, trump are the victims of a leftwing media conspiracy etc etc
Because if you defend the nonsense talked by that lot often enough
you are part of the gang .....don't insult people's intelligence it's laughable
And of course if you don't bother voting yet not using your vote helps elect a far right future ....despite it being clear voting Labour, tory , green , liberal etc is going to keep these fruitcakes out then that's even worse
I personally hope starmer is ousted and at the next election some kind of concensus vote emerges to give us a far from perfect government , a coalition , even the Tories........but by God that mad yank far right republican is a portent of what you will get from reform and the far right
I mean are people really that stupid ?
Do you think your kids , grandchildren will be served by those absolute melts ?
There was a debate on radio 5 last night ....complaining about energy prices ....its all Labour's fault ? ......People on there Tories and to the right .....who privatised energy and gave all of us to the mercy of these private companies ?
It was the conservatives and if people think reform are going to suddenly row back on what we have ......and the same for social services , care , NHS , elderly ....your kids your grandchildren.....then see where reform have cone from .....right wing conservatism ....
Good luck leaving your kids or relatives already fragile future in the hands of that lot
They will make Thatcher look like a left wing socialist
Yeah, I mean housing, being a bit funny and challenging the status quo probably does get you quite far in fairness.
I agree entirely on social media. It's a curse and has been driving people apart for years now. People can just find whatever news they want to back up their own opinion and views slowly become more and more entrenched.
I can't see pollsters coping well with an influx of previously non-political youngsters suddenly voting reform, the models aren't built for a shift like that. If Reform somehow managed to get 30% of 18-24 year olds that are actually likely to vote, that's still historically feck all votes. I think the infighting is having an effect on their numbers, sacking off Farage and opting to go on without him would possibly be the death of this iteration of the ukip/Brexit/reform grift and they are running out of words to use.
