However I think most can agree that Hudson was a leader, in both strength of character and by example.
He came in fully fledged with that experience already in place, and I personally think we need something approaching that this season.
It's definitely doable, but try coming up with a list of successful first season captains and it will be quite small. Most of the great captains in the game have been bedded in over the course of a couple of seasons.

Most of the great captains never played championship football let alone league one. I bet there’s loads of examples of 1st season captains at this level, we just wouldn’t be aware of them.
Our very own Graham Kavanaafh was captain from when he joined the club in 2001.
Having been to a few gentlemens evenings and fundraisers with players from that era, he instantly commanded respect. Some players just have that kind of profile.
Re: Captain For the Season
I hope BBM has a captain signing lined up as I wouldn’t trust any of the current crop to captain a pedelo on Roath Park lake.

I think he'd stand out in midfield in L1

I though we want to get to the Premier League?

Stand out in a good way or bad way?

Irrelevant. We need to appoint a new captain now and the reality is we are about to go into a season in league 1.

Well they will have to sign somebody who is going to be their most important player, so best to get Bale on it!

I am contributing to the thread about the Captain for next season and not interested in a list of this or that.
Looking at our current crop of players I honestly donÂ’t see a standout candidate for the role, along the lines of a Mark Hudson or (as JR Hartley suggests) a Graham Kavanah type. Maybe you think differently and can suggest a candidate.
However, in my limited view, we may need to look to bring that type of person in.
Our new manager will have his ideas about what is required, and hopefully will address it; as and when the serious stuff begins.

Regarding the candidates it is a highly personal decision for the manager to make, as they will need to develop a special relationship between themselves. Looking at recent seasons, Ipswich got Morsy in when they went down and it resulted in double promotions to the Premier League, which highlights the importance of making the right choice.

haha well I hope in a good way, he'd probably have done well in midfield in a better team than us in the Championship, I'd be surprised if he's not one of the best players in L1

Not semantics - you were wrong!
Incidentally it was 2 minutes before they revived him. I had 15 minutes of CPR and 3 goes with the defibrillator!
He would have been playing with Luton's development team until he damaged his ankle and needed an operation last Christmas.
Christian Erickson has played 80 odd Premiership games since his OOHCA, and his ICD implant.

What position do you play?

I'm waiting to take the bleep test to see how much pace I've lost.

think it will be Jak Alnwick
he's been chosen for the ambassador of the Cardiff city disabled supporters association taken over from Joe Ralls
Re: Captain For the Season
so with 6 days to go before the season starts and pre season friendlies out of the way are we any nearer in naming the club captain for the season ?
initial thoughts leading me to Alnwick but changed my mind think we will go with either Wintle or Chambers some suggesting Colwill on social media
thoughts ?
Re: Captain For the Season
I think it will be Wintle - because of his experience, his fitness, his position on the pitch and that he seems to talk and organise more than the other senior options.
That is if he plays regularly. The No 6 position seems to be between him and King.
In a year or two I can see Colwill, Bagan or King as captain.
But more important than who wears the armband is a changed culture in the squad where there are 'captains' all over the pitch - with everyone talking, organising, taking responsibility and leading by example.
Re: Captain For the Season
I took my boys to the Family Fun Day at the CCS today.
Rubin came out ahead of the other outfield players. Make of that what you will. Possibly nothing!!

He had the advantage of not having to tape up his socks, which gave him that extra bit of time, perhaps?
