However I think most can agree that Hudson was a leader, in both strength of character and by example.
He came in fully fledged with that experience already in place, and I personally think we need something approaching that this season.
It's definitely doable, but try coming up with a list of successful first season captains and it will be quite small. Most of the great captains in the game have been bedded in over the course of a couple of seasons.

Most of the great captains never played championship football let alone league one. I bet there’s loads of examples of 1st season captains at this level, we just wouldn’t be aware of them.
Our very own Graham Kavanaafh was captain from when he joined the club in 2001.
Having been to a few gentlemens evenings and fundraisers with players from that era, he instantly commanded respect. Some players just have that kind of profile.

I hope BBM has a captain signing lined up as I wouldn’t trust any of the current crop to captain a pedelo on Roath Park lake.

I think he'd stand out in midfield in L1

I though we want to get to the Premier League?

Stand out in a good way or bad way?

Irrelevant. We need to appoint a new captain now and the reality is we are about to go into a season in league 1.

Well they will have to sign somebody who is going to be their most important player, so best to get Bale on it!

I am contributing to the thread about the Captain for next season and not interested in a list of this or that.
Looking at our current crop of players I honestly donÂ’t see a standout candidate for the role, along the lines of a Mark Hudson or (as JR Hartley suggests) a Graham Kavanah type. Maybe you think differently and can suggest a candidate.
However, in my limited view, we may need to look to bring that type of person in.
Our new manager will have his ideas about what is required, and hopefully will address it; as and when the serious stuff begins.

Regarding the candidates it is a highly personal decision for the manager to make, as they will need to develop a special relationship between themselves. Looking at recent seasons, Ipswich got Morsy in when they went down and it resulted in double promotions to the Premier League, which highlights the importance of making the right choice.
