Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Calum Chambers on the Port Vale game:
“It’s going to be a test. Going away there, they’re going to have a lot of energy, and we need to be ready for that. I’m looking forward to it and I know the whole squad will be ready and raring to go again.
“The support is massively important. They travel in numbers and they really help, especially in away games. You really do feel it on the pitch.
"The game at the weekend, the atmosphere was incredible, the fans really turned out for us. It’s going to be massive this season with what we want to achieve, having them behind us and with us is key. I’m looking forward to seeing them on Thursday.”

I say we go mostly unchanged, bring Chambers on for Fish who looked a little shaky last game. Having Turnbull available will be helpful too.
Some might want to drop Ashford but I thought he did OK, his flair might work against a former League 2 team.

I think I'd put Fish in instead of Lawler away from home. And I've got a feeling Trott will start. Still always puzzles me if we'll ever see an effective line up featuring Colwill, Robinson and Sarlech.

Port Vale wing-back Mitch Clark says Saturday's opening-day defeat in League One showed them another relegation fight beckons if they carry on producing performances like their first-half display against Rotherham.
Vale's first game back in the third tier after last season's promotion got off to a difficult start as they found themselves 2-0 down after 29 minutes and then reduced to 10 men three minutes later when Jaheim Headley was sent off for a bad challenge.
Clark's cross was tucked home by Connor Hall to pull a goal back on the hour, as Vale improved following a triple substitution at half-time.

Many years ago I used to work with someone from Burslem who made the point to me as to where Port Vale were actually located. I had never heard of the place before!
Apparently, there's a statue of Lemmy there.

I think many of us probably found out where Port Vale play when we were in school. I know I did. Remember the old football wall map with the club badges on it? Loads of us had those when we were kids.
Anyway, according to Wiki, Burslem is one of the six towns that along with Hanley, Tunstall, Fenton, Longton and Stoke-upon-Trent form part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England.

The wall map must have passed me by. Hence my ignorance until my early twenties!
Later in life I was posted to Rosyth for three months and discovered that there is no town called Raith. The eponymous team (that I got around to seeing) plies their trade in the town of Methil.

Not really clever, but it is a rare example of a team being named after somewhere they've NEVER played. In fact off the top of my head I can't think of another one as even ManUre played briefly in Manchester despite now being based in Salford.

Oops. For 'Methil' read 'Kirkcaldy'.

Ah yes, Stamford Bridge, where the Anglo-Saxon Casuals turned over the Norwegian Ultras!
Definitely not in Chelsea.

Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Coach parking for Cardiff’s 19 coaches and 6 mini-buses was changed yesterday afternoon, we now got a miles walk to the ground, nothing laid on for disabled fans.
Total chaos
Coach park shuts 1 hour after the game

Shocking but not surprising based on other decisions they've made

Re: PORT VALE v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
It's peeing down in Stoke at the mo but supposedly dry this evening.
And coming into the city from the north I've never seen so many speed cameras.

Stoke City Council have tapped into the market of people wanting to get the **** out of the place as quickly as possible.

I’ve been told they’re all thick in Hamilton.
Queen of the South play in Dumfries.
Spartans certainly don’t play in Sparta.

Last time we played them was a real rarity - first team games for Velikonja, Javi Guerra, Burgstaller and Jazzi Barnum-Bobb.
A cracking goal from a young Joe Ralls too
