Apparently there was a massive queue (over 2 hours just to get in the building) at the mass vaccination centre in the bay this afternoon. This is despite the appointment system and them supposedly not accepting walk-ins.

People who have tested positive for coronavirus in Wales will not be able to leave isolation as early as those can in England.
Oops double post.
New cases up to 119,000, but another encouraging report regarding hospitalisation from Omicron.

Covid booster jabs and vaccinations will be not be available in Wales on Christmas Day or 26 December, the Welsh government has confirmed.
New cases have shot up to nearly 7,000 in Wales with about one in three tests being positive.

My #3 son had his 3rd Jab Tuesday, felt unwell Wednesday (we thought due to the jab), PCR test yesterday, positive result today. Family Christmas cancelled!
He works in a pub (in Wales) only time he’s been out of the house in the last week was to work & get his jab!
Caught covid queuing for a jab….. unbelievable Drakeford out
Very high new cases figures today, but is it down to things being a bit out of sync so to speak because of Christmas?

Bigger worry for NHS outside of the Virus is the depth of non covid cases building up and the effects of the publics mental issues arising from this continued restrictions and lockdown worries , the longer it goes on the worse this will be in years to come for people and the UK , and dare I say job losses and dressing and anxiety due to the economy taking more hits.
If the new variant is weaker perhaps do need to re think this and get life back on track .
I note USA now has self isolation down to 5 days , England 7 .
thats very true LOM regarding the NHS
just read this report on the IC Wales website regarding a young 15 missing out on a scan due to covid . Think its the tip of the ice berg

Terrible stuff you hear quite a lot these days. Omicron 70% less likely to go into hospital yet still we have restrictions. Know a few that reckon they’ve had it, heavy cold, 4/5 days, off you go…..long term I think we need to harass mp’s to fund the nhs more, state it’s in at the moment we could have restrictions every winter regardless of covid.

Let’s hope he’s right
Just looked at the infection rates and vaccination rates for areas in London.
Not only are their infection rates through the roof but double jabs rates are miles lower than around here. Talking about around low 60%.
Why?
just back from watching " Spiderman " the screen was full, as in not a spare seat
very strange having a stranger sat next to me, Ive been to see films in the summer but they were leaving a spare seat between bookings, but filling the rows ( so someone sat directly behind you )
I guess if someone had covid , a fair few more have caught it now, but everyone knew the risks of going
You’d have thought that with the UK Government pursuing a policy at odds with the devolved nations and much of mainland Europe that there would be adequate supplies of the testing apparatus given the onus being put on self testing, but it appears not

Meanwhile, Johnson’s response to the simple question where have you been for the last ten days Prime Minister hardly inspires confidence.

Whether by design or more than likely default letting Omicron rip through the population looks like Johnson getting his wish for ‘herd immunity’ to save the day? I expect him to claim this masterstroke within the coming months if it all goes right.
‘Boris saves the day’ whilst The Sun dress him up as a photo fit of Churchill.
We have been trying to get hold of LFT kits from pharmacies in Sheffield and north Derbyshire every day since the Johnson Plan B announcement - and haven't found one yet. Must have tried over 20 pharmacies, some many times. I know some friends and neighbours who have got hold of them through schools where they work, but even there they are in very short supply. The planning and co-ordination for this (NHS and home test suppliers found out after the press) has been typically useless.

Small amounts of Nightingales being set up again in areas around london where the cases are huge. Sounds like they’re being cautious in case the hospitals get overrun and better to be safe than sorry but just get the feeling we’ve got a few more months of restrictions - to Easter at least.
Need a test in England travel to Wales or Scotland.

Dunno about doubling in two or three days, the Welsh figures have quadrupled in one day according to this, but there is a footnote saying that there have been issues collating the data in recent days.

Lateral flow tests to “constrained” over the next two weeks, whatever that means.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ns-sajid-javid
The self isolation period for people in Wales who have Covid will be cut from 10 days to seven.
It only applies to people who have two negative lateral flow tests on days six and seven of their isolation.
The change comes into effect from New Year's Eve rather than 5 January, as was first planned.
First Minister Mark Drakeford said it was based on "the balance of harm", as staff absences place "huge pressure" on services.
This brings Wales into line with England, which brought in this change on 22 December, and Northern Ireland, which will also cut its self isolation time from 31 December.

Scientists told Welsh ministers a two-week post-Christmas lockdown would have an impact in holding back Covid, but changed this advice two days later.
Has Drakeford done the right thing? Obviously the policy of allowing just 50 spectators into sporting venues is stupid but the latest infection rates, deaths and hospitalisations are grim with New Years Eve to come. This does not look good at all.

Threatening workers with fines doesn't sound fair either and equally stupid, as they can freely go to a pub which could have a far riskier environment. Imagine the headlines if Boris tried that one .
What happened to the safer outside science was saying , we know have sport fans in poor ventilated venues watching but unable to go to an outside sporting event .
Same with Theatre's, cinemas restrictions why not just bring covid passports .
Man is out of his depth luckily for him he will be in power for as long as he wants as media criticism or policy challenges do not occur in Wales.
As to the virus yes it's high but hospiltation is not as high as it was under other variants .
Somes scientists are now saying the current and next variant will deliver natural immunity as it waekens , along with booster jabs which is impressive we may seem some blue sky .
someone from the Welsh government clarified on the radio the other day that the fines were intended to be for employers if they weren't allowing workers to work from home where it was appropriate for them to do so, not for employees who need to go to the office for work.
Boris is taking on the virus and keeping his country open.
He said today
"Together with the Plan B measures that we introduced before Christmas, we have a chance to ride out this Omicron wave without shutting down our country once again.
'We can keep our schools and our businesses open and we can find a way to live with this virus.'
