I find this as well.
At 30mph I have no problem. At 25 it feels a tad slow but ok. 20 feels laborious and feels like I'm not getting very far and 15 makes me shout at the cockwomble causing it. Even the much more patient Mrs HaB is getting wound up when things are moving so slowly.

I’d say what’s happening is that having to drive at a reduced speed for about three quarters of the trip is adding a few minutes to it which means I’m getting caught up in rush hour traffic which doesn’t last very long - both times the queuing was much reduced when it came to driving home about half an hour later and the return leg of my trip is not taking as long as my outward journey.
It’s being stuck in traffic when I didn’t used to be which is annoying, not having to drive a bit slower, but my experience, on this drive at least, is that the measure is adding a few minutes to the drive which appears to be making a big difference, so I’ll try leaving about ten minutes earlier next week and see what happens.
I routinely drive between Gwaelod y Garth, Lisvane, Splott and Caerphilly in pretty much every combination of those. I haven't noticed any significant change on any of those journeys.
Gwaelod to splott is almost entirely not 20mph, whereas Splott to Lisvane is pretty much 20 the whole way so I get a good cross section of different journeys.
the only place I sometimes get caught in traffic is the A470 which is the same as it has been for many years, sometimes better than others for no explicable reason.

I thought the trains are not running at the moment from up your way Bob causing more traffic anyway.

Re: 20mph online petition
Another issue. A bus operator runs a service that is now often 20-25 minutes late arriving at its destination. I've seen the stats over the last week. Should the operator
a) modify the timetable, keeping the current frequency, which would mean using 4 more buses and drivers, all of which would need to be funded by the fare payers, or
b) modify the timetable, reducing the frequency of the service to keep costs the same, or
c) do nothing, ignorance is bliss
Either way the operator is going to annoy passengers by raising fares, having less buses or having late running services. If one motive behind 20mph is to get more to use public transport, theres a problem with it.

Yes, but the point is that in the two weeks the new limit has been in operation, the same journey has taken me a lot longer than it was before. It might just be a coincidence, but I’d be surprised if it was. As I say, I don’t think it’s the reduction in the speed limit that is directly responsible for what is about a ten mile journey taking ten fo fifteen minutes longer than it used to because much of that time is spent waiting in a traffic jam which is very slow moving for the quarter of a mile or so before the supermarket, but I never used to see that degree of queuing when I was able to drive 30 mph.
As I mentioned, I’m going to leave ten minutes earlier next week which I’d guess will mean that there won’t be that traffic jam and I’ll get there just before ALDIs opens. It’s no skin off my nose to do that at my age.

Drakeford's daft rules like don't travel five miles and Boris's daft don't meet your family or friends were also largely ignored.
No they weren’t, there’s a huge amount of rewriting of history going on when it came to what happened in Covid lockdowns - unless I happen to live in an area which was entirely unrepresentative of the rest of the country and I spoke to people who were also completely out of step with what was happening, most people obeyed the lockdown restrictions.

Edit * they were ignored by high profile politicians and decision makers :hehe:

Funnily enough there weren’t too many “high profile politicians and decision makers” living up here in Treherbert in 2020 and 2021 and I wasn’t talking to many of them by phone or by E-Mail either at those times.

Re: 20mph online petition
I believe that a lot of the heat generated by this is unnecessary.
firstly not all roads in Wales are 20, only those that were previously 30, ie. built up areas....if the road does not have an exemption.
On here people have pointed out that roads such as north Road Cowbridge road west and the like are still 30, but others are as well. Examples are Leckwith Road from the stadium leaving the city, Ferry Road and I'm sure there are others. The Western Ring road is still 70 and most roads that were previously 50 still are.
What would help is if Main feeder roads for estates were also exempt, such as Ty Glas.
I drive from Llandaff to the bay every morning lately and normally home about 4.30 PM. I haven't notice any particular increase in waiting times, not have I been tail-gated more than previously or honked at. That's just as well really because my first reaction is to slow down and if necessary stop. They really love that! The same as when drivers rush up behind me on the motorway, if they start flashing their light or get too close I just brake and reduce my speed. They hate it, poor lambs.
There isn't that much difference that I can see between 20 and 30 in the city. And outside built up areas it doesn't apply.

Funnily enough how would you know families were not seeing each-other, or breaking the odd diktat, you’re just guessing. No doubt you kept an eye on those potential rule breakers.

Considering how high profile this policy implementation is , and the fact that it’s already cost around £33m in infrastructure upgrades , it was hardly the main talking point of the Labour Party manifesto and most people were surprised when it was announced.
It was brought in through the back door.

Well, I spent much more time sat at my desk top computer in a room which looks out onto a field my back door opens onto during lockdown. Today, there will be a continuous flow of people walking their dogs in that area, during lockdown there was hardly anybody - as I said, history being rewritten to suit an agenda.
Anyway, you’ve spent three years and more going on about how the authorities handled Covid, why bother getting so worked up about it if you know most people were taking no notice of lockdown rules?

Re: 20mph online petition
Is there anyone who thinks this change of speed should have been a higher priority than using the money and doing something different that really mattered, like improved NHS treatment for specialist cancer treatments or children's transplant improvements or improved social care for the disabled or elderly, or anything else the Welsh public could have got behind and been proud of?
I'm sure you could find something that would save way more than 10 lives with that amount of money.

People stopped walking their dogs during covid :hehe: (not bullying, genuinely laughing)
If true that must be one weird place, and not like the rest of the UK.

I had the joy of using stagecoach buses about a month or so ago.
I can tell you that late buses are not new or down to 20mph in my experience.
In waiting for one bus to turn up, two were cancelled and what would’ve been a half hour journey (yes even with 20mph) by car took over two hours. Also missed the connecting bus because of the cancellations.
I was told it’s down to not having enough buses and drivers, which you’d think are the two key things you need for a bus service

Not going down the Emotive road with that one, Eh? Looking after the fit and healthy are also good policies as well. They have long term benefits.

Clearly missing the point again. Did you manage to fill your little black book , seems like you may have self appointed yourself as a government deputy during this time :hehe:
Perhaps that’s what is in your carrier bag

Re: 20mph online petition
Drove to Swansea this morning. Id say journey again longer by seconds.
However first time ive driven in an area where the road signs are a feckin shambles. Drove for about a mile past a 30 sign only to come to another 30 sign with on the back of it a 20. The road I was on was a 20 but the sign changed only 1 way.
Didnt see a speed camera but id appeal if ticket incoming.

confusing for a while , i had an instance yesterday my dash went down to 5mph limit a blip maybe and stayed like it for about 200 yards other than that its not any change as far as i can tell with most roads the same off the residential areas
