England's individual talents way exceed that of the Swiss, but I still thought the Swiss were the better team - not just today, but throughout the tournament. I think England could win it if they start to click. I wouldn't be surprised.

Are we kidding our selves on ?
On paper, yes, it does look like a top class squad, and there is no doubting the players have bundles of ability, but they are starting to look like a complete enigma. Personally I think Southgate is useless, but I’m starting to wonder if there is a manager on this planet that could getting them playing like an unstoppable attacking machine. It’s mind boggling.

That goal had been coming.

Excluding Bellingham, it's a PL eleven on the pitch. They don't play like that in the PL, at least not that sluggishly. It really was mostly walking pace tonight, and actually almost came to a complete standstill for long periods later on.

Re: EUROS thread. The quarter finals
I thought that was England’s best performance so far, but, apart from their goal, when did they look like scoring? Pickford was the busier keeper, Switzerland hit the woodwork and wasted a few very promising situations by taking wrong options, whereas England had plenty of possession in front of the Swiss, but they were Cardiff City like in terms of the speed and accuracy that they moved the ball.
England have been like that all tournament and I honestly haven’t a clue what Southgate is trying to do with a team that was free scoring four and five years ago under his management - he’s got better attacking players now than he had then and yet they’re looking so ordinary going forward.

And Kane, he’s not a Premier League player now.

Re: EUROS thread. The quarter finals
Its going to end up France v England final, two teams who have absolutely stunk the place out.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The quarter finals
Turkey have gone to pieces in the last ten minutes, looking like England v Netherlands Semi Final.

I'm starting to think their players aren't even that good.
We've been brainwashed by the marketing wizzkids at Sky that keep ramming down our throats that the PL is the best around and the players are the best.
Is it just familiarity in them that makes us think they are decent? I know a few on here watch every game of football across Europe but I don't know hardly any players from other nations but they all seem just as capable as the English lot.

You’re wrong. Most of them are, as they demonstrate for their clubs on a frequent basis. Foden is a case in point. Premier League player of the year, Man City player of the year, looking nothing special for England.
This is nothing to do with Sky marketing and everything to do with an international management and coaching set-up that doesn’t know how to get the best out of the players it has available to it.

The Premier League isn't as great as they think
And nor are the England team
I mean Modric is a truly world class player
England have a huge player base but not one of them can hold a light to the best in Europe like him
They can definitely win this though despite being fur coat and no knickers

If foden is Premier league player of the year but looks below par in the euros then clearly that award is a load of cobblers

There could be a load of reasons why a player looks below par playing for an international side. Messi didn't always light up world cups yet was one of the best players of all time. No disputing that.

Re: EUROS thread. The quarter finals
England are having so much luck, they might well win this :frown:
Or maybe they've used up all their luck getting this far.

Im not one of those "fck you english" welsh knobheads...but this would kill me. England are so insanely anti football it would be criminal for them to lift the trophy. Southgate is englands Bulut.
England have the best team in the tournament and maybe the world on paper. But as with Bulut...there is this manger obsession to force them to play in a way that clearly does not suit them.
They dont perform like they do in the PL because..THEY ARE NOT PLAYING THE TACTICS THEY DO IN THE PL. so like with bulut, its the manager 100% atm and its very hard to blame players for struggling to play a shit dinosaur tactic.
France are the same. Cmon Holland vs Spain final.

I don't think its a case of them not being that good, just other teams being under estimated as their players are less familiar to British football fans
I think a few of the England players are a touch overrated, especially by the press, but that's true of all teams and their national media

Re: EUROS thread. The quarter finals
Holland won the last two knockout games scoring five in 90 minutes.
England drew both their games teams scoring two goals.
They needed extra time twice and penalties once, all those extra minutes will take their toll and they will be leggy and burnt out, Holland should win comfortably, as the games come quick and fast.
Spain- Holland Final, Spain deserves to win as the best team, the Germans wee the second best but unlucky with the draw.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Tuesday 9th July
SPAIN v FRANCE. 8pm
Wednesday 10th July
NETHERLANDS v ENGLAND. 8pm

Therefore, you were even more inaccurate in your original claim than I gave you credit for. Excellent.
I have to say I’m greatly amused by the way in which you regularly attempt to make the outcome of football matches sound so simple. You did it throughout last season and with very little success as I recall.
Keep up the good work.

Never predictable, I thought the Swiss would probably beat them. England are strong favorites so should win according to the bookies, who are rarely wrong, because of the extra time they could be wrong on this one, but I couldn't care either way.

If you're talking about Wednesday's game, England are indeed favourites, but not strong favourites.

Paddy Power England 6/4 Holland 21/10, they have them as strong favourites, and all the rest are similar.

You think 6/4 in a three-horse race equates to a strong favourite? If so, I guess you're not a betting man.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
England are 8/11 to win the tie not 6/4.
So just a shade of odds on. Clearly not strong favs in a 2 team contest.

No of course not that's for idiots, subjective, favourites anyway
Who are you betting on?

Spain have moved to favourites to win the tournament. No much between Spain, England and France.
8/11 for England to qualify for the final is decent value in my opinion. The 6/4 being quoted is 90 minutes, very dodgy bet at this stage of proceedings.
If Southgate manages to win it and he could well do he should be tried for crimes against football.
Most people supporting England will forgive him .
As we would do should that honour fall on one of our countries .
Scotland were lucky enough to be dreadful and lose.... Lose ,lose.....

Our fans forgave Bulut for his mind numbing tactics and he got us to 12th place. Footballs a funny game.

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
It could be argued that the vast majority of top level English players perform best under foreign managers.
The national side has usually been associated with predictability coupled with a lack of flair, creativity and urgency.

Unless those foreign managers are managing England.

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Got a terrible feeling it's going to be a Bulutball final as England and France face off with the attitude that winning is the only important thing despite them having, arguably, the two best sets of attacking talent in the tournament.
It's absurd that England supporters have only had a great set of penalties in a shoot out to get really excited about in five games (six if you count their nightmare against Iceland in the last warm up game) - football's heading for problems if England or France win this tournament.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
The turnaround from throwing cups at his head and booing him to the inevitable canonization of St. Gareth if he does manage to win it will be quite something to see.
I agree in general though, I really hope it's a Spain - Netherlands final but given how this knockout stage has been, will be two 0-0's and England and France through on pens. We may not see another goal scored in open play. Was an interesting article in the Athletic yesterday on this topic - arguably this year with the Euros and the Copa there's never been such a terrible advert for attacking football in major international tournaments. And it started so well in the first 2 rounds of group games too.

I am hoping Spain can at least overcome France. The dread has already set in and ive already accepted England will make it, by hook or crook.
