Surprise, surprise, they want yet another reduction in the amount of red ball cricket played, so I'm against it straight away.
I'm going to sound like the "things were better in my day" merchant I was determined not to become when I was young here, but, in this case, I don't mind because things were better in my youth when sides played twenty odd three day County Championship games, there were two knockout one day cups and a limited overs league on Sundays. There was much less specialisation in those days and, with smaller squads at counties, there were plenty of players who would be included in the team, if fit, for every competitive game a county played across the four competitions in.a season - the best county bowlers sent down far more overs than today's players do as well.
Compare all of that to today where it's impossible for anybody to play a full season in all four competitions because two of them take place at the same time. Furthermore, with separate red and white ball contracts often on offer, players get plenty of chances to recharge their batteries unless they become one of those white ball cricketers who spend their year gadding about the planet lining their pockets while playing for about five different sides.
So, as someone who is usually on the sife of the "workers", I have little sympathy with modern day complaints that cricketers play too much (even when their case is being made by as decent a bloke as James Harris).
Glamorgan look like wrapping up a good win. Unfortunately it won't be enough, with Kent close to a win against Essex.
And so we end up 5th, with a pile of what ifs and maybes! Not the 1st time. Some really good wins and performances, mingled in with some horrible defeats and utter dross. Maybe the inevitability of t20, certainly an inevitability of glammy playing t20!
Not bad overall, 7 and 7 and some positive moments. Unfortunately it's the 2 Surrey games that are the only 2 that could be described as us really throwing it away. In massive positions in both games to really stuff them, but a poor chase of 149, followed by not being able to defend 222. In fact Glamorgan throwing away games against Surrey seems to be a recurring theme season after season.
That Gloucestershire game killed us and so a team we murdered just a fortnight earlier, Kent, qualified at our expense. Sadly, it looked like a bit of a bottle job in that vital game that we should have won and so I can’t really say we were unlucky. Good win last night though on pitch which looked a real beauty while Carlson and Smale were batting on it, but never did after that.

I agree the Surrey games were the only two we threw away but there were a couple of others where one stand cost us. We bowled pretty well in the powerplay overs on the whole but we let Sussex pile up 72 in their game here and we were chasing the game from then on. In the Hampshire game we got Vince early and had them at 90-3 after nearly 12 overs but the next two went berserk and put on 114 in eight overs. Once we lost momentum, batting or bowling, it took us too long to get back on track at times.
Chasing was a problem overall. We batted second eight times and only won three (two of them were chasing 118 and 124) but we won four out of six batting first and got 222 in a game we lost. Another problem for me was how weak the tail was. There was talk of batting down to 11 but Douthwaite was the last real threat throughout. I guess Kerr would've helped out in that department so there was some bad luck there.
Positives too though, as you say. Leonard was excellent, Tribe and Kellaway are making progress and while Horton struggled, hopefully he'll learn from the experience. Plenty of others contributed at some point. We just needed a bit more consistency, both collectively and individually.
Back to the Championship now, Kent here on Tuesday.
An unexpected overseas signing who’ll be available for tomorrow’s game.

Agree with that. Hopefully he picks up where he left off and doesn't need three or four matches to get going again.
Northeast not playing this week as he's on paternity leave - are we likely to see Billy Root for the first time this season?
Elsewhere, I see that Dan Douthwaite has been picked to play for the counties select XI in a one-day series against Pakistan A - good for him. Bit of a mental day for the second XI yesterday as well; got a first innings score of 232 after being 22-6 at one point!
Won the toss and bowled. Earlyish wicket for fernando. No gorvin - got to be considered unlucky, and no crane. If you add northeast to that and a ‘got to be close now’ douthwaite, it’s become quite a competitive squad.
Henry Hurle had 104 not out, Tom Norton had 62, and McIlroy 29. Nobody else got into double figures.
Sounds like a bit of a wild one as Kent were 127-3, and then got bowled out for 189. Mason Crane got 5-22.
Ed Bevan mentioned this morning that Kellaway has been training with the England Lions this week. Says he's likely to tour with them in the winter.
Make that 150-7.
Kent collapse from 148-3 to 155 all out with Joe Denly not coming back to bat after retiring hurt - three wickets each for Van Der Gugten and Harris.
According to ESPN James Harris toured the West Indies with the Lions in 2011 whilst he was a Glamorgan player. He went to Middlesex a year later.
