Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Looking like England are peaking at the business end. Didn’t think they’d win it under Southgate, but the only team that can beat them now is themselves. As good as Spain have been, England have by far the better squad of the 2, and it’s now or never.

Will be a cracking final. Football for the win.

Kane is a tallysman captain , massive experience in tournaments, he is always doubled up by defenders , inspiration to young squad playaers , oppositions fear him .

Great finish Watkins, Dutch offered little but controlled that second half. I imagine the Dutch will be fuming with a certain German this evening...

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Well done, England.
Over the 90 minutes they deserved that.

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Spain far superior in every department.
Though I fear England's name is on it after that awful display by the officials.

Yes two very different sides, think England seem to be in a never give up groove in this tournament.

It's most definitely coming home.

Football. Not quite as straightforward as some would have you believe…

Not as bad as other decesions.
The defender showed his studs.
Was high on his ankle.
Didnt touch the ball .
If it was outside the box you give them all day game after game .

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Pundit defender says no penalty. Pundit striker says penalty. I must admit that I'm with Wrighty on this one. If that's a foul outside the box then it's a penalty inside. We say so often when it's Cardiff or Wales. I find the football's so much more enjoyable though when I don't care who wins.

That's the first (And probably last) time anyone has ever said that to LOM.

Do you think if the tackle was made elsewhere its a foul???
You see them given quite often , this one however is contentious because its a semi final , in the penalty box , its England and Kane, judges simply asked referee to review his decesion???.

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
for me, if that was against any team I supported I wouldnt be happy at all, Kanes shot gets away, the defender has every right to go for the ball, Kane leg follows through from the strike, the defender has committed to the challenge and it doesnt have any malice in it, both boots collide
we are slowly losing sight of the fact that football is a physical game and contact is made at times

Win some, lose some. We are also losing sight of the fact that officials get things wrong (If indeed it was wrong, i only watched the 2nd half) It's football.

yea humans get things wrong, thats fine
but we have VAR now, so we can have a number of officials making the decision ( or should be )
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Looks written in the stars for England, given how this tournament has gone Spain will be a no show and England will get a 1-0 win from an absolute borefest.

I've only seen it once or twice. But to me, the ball came to Kane, he took a shot, skied it, and then followed through onto Dumfies' outstretched leg. I don't see how it could be a penalty. Kane wasn't impeded, he took his shot and missed it.

I think the officials’ logic was that Dumfries had his studs up and it was therefore dangerous play. Not a penalty in my book, although if the same incident had happened anywhere else on the field and a free kick had been awarded, I doubt anyone would have objected.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
I thought Dumfries had every right to go for it the way he did. Kane rolled around squealing, then miraculously got up and scored a perfect penalty.
I think England deserved to go through overall.
-
Re: EUROS FINAL. ENGLAND v SPAIN
Never a penalty in a million years before the introduction of VAR, but, from the first replay I saw, I thought it was always going to be given.
I didn’t see much of the match because I was watching City, but I agree that England were the better team based on what I did watch.
-
Re: EUROS FINAL. ENGLAND v SPAIN
Looks like England are set to do a Greece.
-
Re: EUROS FINAL. ENGLAND v SPAIN
Anywhere else on the pitch that would have been a free kick to the Netherlands. Maybe if Dumfries had stayed down the same way that Kane did it may have been seen differently, but then England fans would have accused the ref of being corrupt.
There was no clear and obvious error, so it shouldn't have been given.
-
Re: EUROS FINAL. ENGLAND v SPAIN
The Dutch media, fans etc pointing out that Saka played the ball with his hand before the ball dropped to Kane.
I didn't see it at the time but VAR is a nonsense if it looks at one alleged foul and not another.
England deserved to win and it was a great strike from Watkins.

And they're polishing the OBEs in London...

Unfortunately I’ve had a sinking feeling this would be the outcome since Bellingham pulled that strike out his arse against Slovakia.
England peaking at the right time and Spain not quite hitting the heights as consistently as they were earlier in the tournament, I can see the 88th minute 1-0 winner now.

When are they announcing it’s a “Bank Holiday” on Monday ?
PS:——- they wanted him sacked last week, when their corner kick ended up back with Prickford (no, I have spelt it right):hehe:

:thumbup:var has ruined it, the ref shits out when they are called to watch it on the monitor every time i cant remember one thats stuck with original call, should be used for offside only

I’m pretty sure Michael Oliver awarded a penalty in an EPL game, was called to the screen to review it but stuck with his original decision. That’s the only example I can think of.
I’ve said it many, many times, but I firmly believe VAR should be scrapped completely. I can’t stand it.

Seconded.
The system they have in in rugby works well, but VAR is a disaster.

Doing a bit of a disservice to Greece there. Rank outsiders pulling off a miracle vs the pre tournament favourites with comfortably the most expensive and best squad

most England fans I know are now hoping that Kane is dropped for the final (although they know he won't be)
it's clear England have a much better shape when he isn't on the pitch.
I've been saying it since the first match of the tournament

He ambles around like an old man at times.
Looks a shadow of the player who's terrorised the Bundesliga.
