Thick of It, Gavin and Stacey, Peep Show and Detectorists are all fairly recent and are in the top 20

Only fools is my favourite
Closely followed by red dwarf, particularly the first few series. Banter between the three main characters was very good.

Re: Best ever British sitcom award goes to...........................
Yes Minister is another striking omission.
Far better than a fair number on the list in my opinion

Father Ted?
I've had funnier toothache.

I agree. Sir Humphrey is up there with Basil Fawlty.
'Yes (Prime) Minister' or 'The Vicar Of Dibley'......? Seems like a 'comedy expert' fail to me.

I must be a miserable git. There's only one or two of them I find remotely funny.

Yes that's a shock , but perhaps not from a politically correct paper and climate .

On a different note, I absolutely loved father Ted when it was first on, but I saw an episode recently and it seemed like it has dated badly. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, or i had seen it too many times, but it had definitely lost something.
Mrs brown's boys in the other hand is awful from the start
I don’t get Mrs Browns boys success, I don’t think I know anyone who likes it!

Is the Radio Times magazine really a hotbed of political correctness?

A Guardian article reporting on a Radio Times list.

Re: Best ever British sitcom award goes to...........................
They should probably call it “Best of English Comedy” really. It’d be more accurate.

Are there any glaring omissions from the rest of Britain?

It just seems like a thoroughly English thing. I don’t see the harm in calling it what it is and it’s fine for non-english people to enjoy it or identify with it.
I guess this fella has never seen Cmon Midfield so to give it the impression that it’s inclusive of all cultures on our island would be false.
It’s as if Britain only covers English-speaking islanders. Like the only ones who really belong to the homogeneous culture are english speakers. As if those of us who speak other languages are periferal and unwanted by the mega-mass.......oh wait.....

I’ll tweet the writer if you want but I think we both know it’d be wasting everyone’s time.
What would be the big deal with calling it English sitcoms ?
