Gilbert was on loan start of 2006/07 season.
We were flying at top of championship.
Back 4 at times of
Gilbert
Loovens
Johnson
Super kev.
A very young back 4.
Then Gilbert stopped playing mysteriously. PM Dudders.

Delaney, Simon Davies and Craig Bellamy we’re a brilliant right side for Wales in that great win over Italy in 2002.
Peter Rodrigues
Rod Thomas
Mark Delaney
Kevin McNaughton
Bruno Manga ( what happened to him)
And the guy we had on loan whose name obviously escapes me.

Re: Best City right back you've seen?
Delaney for me as well, for all round ability, but my favourite was Super Kev.
Best left back, and one of the best defenders I’ve seen in my time down the City was Ray Daniel. Although he was only with us for a season, I thought he was top notch.
Not to be confused with another Ray Daniel who played for us for a season in the late 50’s.
Re: Best City right back you've seen?
Mark Delaney, Phil Dwyer, Dave Carver (for his crossing ability for Toshack) and I would place many above Kevin McNaughton because he could not defend.

That’s him. Ray Daniel
Re: Best City right back you've seen?
What a difficult question. How can you compare different eras, different divisions?
FWIW I agree that as much as I loved SuperKev, he was limited in his passing ability and would not get in my top3.
As an oldie remember Dave Carver. Big strong fullback. Didn't get forward like a full back is expected to do nowadays, but could cross the ball, and a winger would struggle to get past. Reminds me of Lee Peltier who did a similar job for us in the Championship and Premiership.
Up there as well, Peter Rodriguez, who I think would do a job today. Good tackler and was quick going forward.
Mark Delaney, albeit playing in Div4 always looked capable of playing in a higher league, but didn't play that long for us.
I am surprised none of the oldies on here have mentioned Graham Coldrick, famous for his headed own goal in the FA cup tie v Man City.

He was quite good and became right back after Charlie Rutter twisted his knee, which kept him out for the rest of the season and enabled Ron Stitfall to take his place. Ron kept his place when Charlie returned. Charlie was the only player until Jay Bothroyd was capped to have been selected by England while playing for Cardiff, although it was a B cap, not a senior cap.

Yes, I used to love talking to him there, nearly every time you went to his stall upstairs, there was a city fan talking to him

Well, you learn something every day.
Never saw him as a player, but loved visiting his birds whenever I went to the market.

He used to lodge with my Great Auntie in the 50's. A really lovely man and I was so proud when the Bluebirds held a minute silence before one of their games.
Re: Best City right back you've seen?
I'm surprised I'm the only one to mention Phil Dwyer. He spent most of his career at right back and even played occasionally as a striker. At full back he was surely the toughest man to play for Cardiff City in his position.

May be controversial but I thought SuperKev was at his best when playing left back.
Re: Best City right back you've seen?
Surprised Alan Harrington hasn’t had a mention, good solid full back.

A few of us have mentioned him earlier in the thread!
