You mention "articles", are they written by people in a position to affect the policy of Governments or are they just opinion pieces? Outlandish articles on the left and right have been written for decades, if not centuries, but shouldn't be taken for policy.

Your second and third examples are essentially the same thing. I'm not looking to excuse some of the excesses of a proportion of those on the left when it comes to how they view immigration, but I would say that they hear some of the anti minority views of the likes of Orban and Erdogan and want to show their opposition to such opinions. Add in the number of countries where the nationalist right are closer to forming a Government than at any time since the Second World War and the left will want to present another side to the argument against thinking which is diametrically opposed to their own. The fact that these right wing, often far right wing, parties are on the rise is proof of the swing to the populist right which has been going on for at least a decade, but I maintain has its roots in the 2008 financial crisis.

Again, I'm not sure what you mean by your fourth point, but I suspect climate change is involved somewhere in it, so I'll just post this link for someone out of the usual suspects on here to tell us the experts and scientists have got it wrong and they know better

In my last post…I drew a distinction between power and the rise of the left culturally.
I’d like to stick to that if you don’t mind as you know that the last 14 years in the UK has had a terrible effect on the UK and 12 years out of the last 16 have been Democrat run.
I acknowledge that it was hardly Bernie Sanders…but the cultural shift has been significant over this period despite who has held office.

First off, I believe that everybody of a right mind deplores bigotry.
There are caveats though, and I think that these caveats are important regardless if they cross some people sensibilities.

There is one thing being tolerant and another with the tail wagging the dog.
I think that the UK has bent over backwards to accommodate minorities and frankly it has been a disaster.
You might not like it or agree with me…but here are my thoughts.

There are between 30 and 85 Sharia Councils in the UK.
Should there be any at all?
If so why?
The last General Election gave us several MP’s voted in primarily from Islamic wards.

Regardless of what is happening in the Middle East. It is my opinion that Islam is massively dangerous and there is an exponential growth in the UK.
Any comparison with Christianity in my opinion is whataboutism at best and incredibly naive at worst.
It’s a horrifically conservative ideology or theology that people like Christopher Hitchens warned about before he died.

It’s easy to pick on Christians in this new wave of atheism but hardly anyone has the stones to throw stones at Islam.

The Daily Mail. I don’t read it.
It’s as divisive and hyperbolic as The Guardian.
I used to get the Washington Post delivered daily. I don’t read that anymore and would certainly never get the Washington Times.

The Racial Maths and Countryside appeared on the BBC as well as other well established media outlets like the WSJ.
It’s absolute horse piss…but published nonetheless. Again we are not discussing if this is promoted by a government…rather than established institutions that have have succumbed to “right think” (right as in correct, here).

I’ve been working on this reply for about 25 minutes and getting “interrupted” by my Wife :)

Let’s whittle it down to a few questions and answers.
I can’t see us agreeing on something’s.
Some we may.
Long worded paragraphs aren’t the way for me to do it right now.
Nuance is a thing of the past anyway.

I agree that there is little point in continuing this discussion as we're not going to change each others mind. I also agree with your last sentence , but cannot be too critical of anyone showing a lack of nuance when it's something which I've become increasingly guilty of. However, I'll finish by asking don't your comments on Islam lack that nuance as well?

I think that's a fair point from Bob. We cant talk about Islam, we have to talk about radical or extreme opinions within Islam (and other religions or political or cultural groups). There's valid questions on that, on integration and whether we have allowed radical opinions to grow unchallenged somewhat though. In my opinion anyway.

There will be a tonne of stuff we all agree on..probably just the boring or undisputed things that aren't worthy of discussion. There is also far more common ground when people sensibly discuss things in purpose.

I'm sure Bob and Ninian also agree that the death penalty is wrong, that the war in the middle east needs to end as soon as possible and that Farage has all the answers for example ;)

it's now 4 days since the opening poster posted this, and i would guess as being the most prolific poster using the term right wing or far right on this site, still hasn't been able to clarify his interpretation of right wingers but requested a genuine response, any one else see the problem here ? :sherlock:
