What about the new owners £20 million investment? Or was that the price the hedge fund charged them for dwindling club

Re: The Sinking ship down West
£4m for a decent championship CM who will be 30 in the summer seems a lot to me

Who cares? I just commented that it's not a big move. Which it isn't.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
4m for Grimes is a brilliant price and poor business by Coventry.
If this was the summer I'd say a brilliant deal by Swansea. However they fail to win in their next few games and they are really in the relegation mix and they may regret letting him go.

True words, Moz. Up until we've been able to put Chambers in midfield this season our midfield has always been weaker without Ralls. His record speaks for itself and he has been a fantastic servant of Cardiff City.

Agree with this too, that seems a very excessive price for him but unless they replace him with somebody who is an established championship midfielder it could cause them some serious issues as they have a thin squad already

Hopefully they sack their manager and appoint Steven Gerrard.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
I read a remarkable stat last night:
Since their relegation from the Premier League in 2018, Swansea have played a total of 310 Championship and Championship play-off matches. Matt Grimes has featured in 306 of them (298 starts, 8 sub appearances). He was ever-present in their league starting line-up in 2019/20, 2021/22, 2023/24 and so far this season.
It's fair to say he's going to be a big loss for the Jacks.

Their respective Championship and play-off appearance stats for the last five and a half seasons (2019/20 to 2024/25):
Joe Ralls - 160 (+29) appearances
Matt Grimes - 258 (+3) appearances
For reference, Callum O'Dowda has made 112 (+34) Championship appearances during the same period.
Ralls has the edge in terms of goals from 2019/20 onwards. He has 15, while Grimes has 9. However, Joe's goals seem to have dried up in recent seasons. He's scored just 3 in the last three and a half seasons (none so far in 2024/25). Grimes has 7 during that period.

Those are indeed quite remarkable stats. It's fair to say he's not the kind who tweaks a hamstring or gets laid low by flu etc.
Who was the last outfield player for us, who was ever-present throughout a season, Whitts maybe?

It was in fact as recently as last season - the warrior that is Dimitrios Goutas.

Re: The Sinking ship down West
Quite a loss for them indeed, lets hope it's enough to drag them down.
Matt Grimes this season: (Championship rank)
▪️Touches: 2887 (1st)
▪️Touches in the middle third: 1765 (1st)
▪️Carrying distance: 8855 yards (1st)
▪️Carries: 1818 (1st)
▪️Passes received: 2176 (1st)
▪️Passes completed: 2349 (1st)
▪️Passes into the final third: 248 (1st)
Not sure how reliable the source is.

sometimes a statistic tells you more about the playing style of the team than it does about the player.

True but is shows everything up to now, goes through him.

Thats a fair point.
It'll be interesting who they look to replace him with
I guess in the short term its Allen and Franco with Ollie Cooper ahead of them, which isn't a total disaster, as I gather that Allen has been generally better than he was against us

Ralls has been a little deeper and less all action over the last few years, no surprise really considering his injury record
In my opinion a good Championship player who is unfairly maligned by some fans
