Mike, I have been trying to log in to your site for over a week without success, until now. Have the 'Global Restrictions' been inadvertently changed or something (I think some websites have this)?
I used to be able to log in from China without using a VPN. When I couldn't log in, I tried using my VPN from my usual and reliable USA location, but to no avail. I then tried the Canadian and Australian settings, but still couldn't log in on my phone. Then the penny dropped and I tried a UK location on my home computer and finally, I was able to access your site,
However, it does mean I can no longer view on my phone, as my phone doesn't have a UK location.
Slowing down again
Currently slumming it in Es Grau, Menorca. If I use WiFi, message comes up "you are not authorised to view this page". If I use 4g, no problem (apart from a highly variable local signal even if I'm almost sat under the mast.) Oddly, there is a UK car, with a Nathaniel Cars /CF31 sticker and number plate on it closer to the mast than me. Could be a Jack in disguise using up all the 4g? Unless anyone knows better.
30 to 40 seconds to load now
Country restrictions have been lifted. So it should work around the world now. But unfortunately that allows bots to access which slows things down. Still in a bit of trial and error.
See how it goes over the next 24 hours.
this is the first time i could load this site for at least the last 3 days.
Bordering on unusable the board nowadays which is a shame
Good to see the forums back up as not been able to view them for a week or more. Australia here. As above got the unauth message.
Working fine on WiFi now in Menorca. Thanks, Mike.
Technically, it's not illegal. If it were made illegal, the majority of foreigners entering China would find themselves breaking the law at customs.
However, downloading and distributing 'sensitive' content through the use of a VPN is illegal. Downloading a VPN while in China is also hugely challenging, it needs to be done while outside of mainland China.
To further answer your question, without a VPN, the Internet is very limited, to the point of being dull.
