Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
Thing is, despite all of the elements that many of us find irksome, isn’t the Premier League and football in general actually more popular than ever in terms of TV audiences and attendances at matches?
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
What is odd is these games are in the vast majority on subscription TV. It's really easy not to have all this football available and save a few quid.
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
The opening game of the season in the German top flight this evening: Bayern Munich 6 RB Leipzig 0.
Leipzig are ranked 4th in the betting for the title, so this is the equivalent of Liverpool beating Chelsea 6-0.
Not really a good look for the Bundesliga.
(Flat track bully Harry Kane got a second-half hat-trick.)

Sky's viewing figures were down 10% last season, TNT's were down 17%
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
Pedro Neto went down like he’d been shot. Writhing in agony holding his leg.
Low and behold, less than a minute later, he’s up running around no problem.
These players should be booked for that.

How did the attendances at matches throughout the pyramid go?
As regards Sky’s viewing figures being down, that’s hardly a surprise. Everyone seems to have dodgy boxes or fire sticks these days (apart from mugs like me).

And me, although I've cancelled TNT.
PL attendance:
22/23 15.28m
23/24 14.67m
24/25 15.36m
Champ
22/23 10.35m
23/24 12.72m
24/25 12.17m
Staying pretty static, bar the Champ which had a big boost in 23/24 with Leeds, Ipswich and Wednesday returning, placing Reading, Blackpool and Wigan

I think Nuno will win that particular race.
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
He will, but Potter isn’t going to be far behind. Think this will Potter’s last job at this level for a while and expect Nuno will replace him.
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
To me, The Premier League has been as open over the last 5 years or so than it has been since it was founded.
Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Wolves became solid teams who earned the right to stay in the league and it wasn’t an upset to take points of the top 6 teams.
Then there is Leicester.
Were the top clubs particularly poor that season or is that Leicester team massively underrated?
I personally love to delve into the nostalgia of the old football league system, but back since I remember…it was only Aston Villa, Everton and Nottingham Forest who stopped Liverpool ruling the roost until Arsenal beat them in the last minute at Anfield, in which I would guess was 1989?
Man Utd couldn’t even get a look in for close to 30 years before they won it.
As has been stated, several teams could win it this year and compared to other top leagues around Europe…that makes it a lot more competitive in my eyes.

The Forest situation is bizarre. Looks like Nuno wants out there and is trying to get the push.

Supposedly Marinakis wants to replace him with Postecoglu
Can't think of many managers less suited to Forest's solid deep defensive play than him

Agreed. Fulham too, and Palace were tough to beat. You feel for these clubs though who do so well to build teams but then get raided by the big boys.

It’s the way the football pecking order has always worked.

Agree with both points.
It is a shame, but as Bruce Hornsby said…That’s just the way it is!

There was a study done online (I think Reddit) towards the end of last season discussing the impact of the increased televised games. The findings were that for the first time in a long time, more teams in the pyramid saw drops in attendances than rises. They took into account promotion and relegation as well and individual teams not leagues as a whole.
The conclusion was Sky’s increased EFL broadcasting rights, up from ~600 games to 1,000+ games a season had potentially impacted attendances in a noticeable way. Not a huge way, but a noticeable one.
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
I enjoy watching the PL. And it comes with most people's cable packages. Some games are on paid apps, but if you don't follow a particular club it's fine. There were three live games today. And there will be two more tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing Everton's home opener.
Re: Not a good look for the Premier League.
The ref in the Man City v Spurs game wasn't much better than ours v Wimbledon.
And WTF was Trafford thinking. I think thats the worst example of a keeper playing from the back I've seen.

You don't need a study, look at Serie A
