This lad is quite tall I think. The Villa fans on the thread Dan linked were talking about him needing to fill out a bit. This really is an interesting signing I reckon. All sorts of possibilities.
Sounds very promising. He's still very young, so he can be nurtured into a wing role, and League One is a good opportunity for him to strut his stuff. Chelsea academy it could be argued is the very best in the UK, or it was 15 or so years ago thanks to Salah and KDB.

Chelsea signed Salah from Basel for £11m and KDB from Genk.
Both won their respective leagues before Chelsea signed them

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

However on looking at Tosh's Wiki page, there is a link to a story by Steve Tucker on Wales Online with a photo of the actual board meeting where the sale was agreed saying that the fee was £111,000 with £5,500 going to the Football League and £5,500 to Toshack.
Can't really get more official than that so don't know where the figure of £154,000 by Taffy Blue quoted earlier come from.
No idea about the Dewey family cut, but it would have been about £10,000.
All I can say is that my dad was quite well connected to the City then (he knew Graham Keenor the club secretary particularly well) and he never mentioned it.
Which is not to say that it is not true.

Omari’s birthday is on the same day as yours truly
He’ll be 20, I’ve lost count :hehe:

I don't think Chelsea necessarily have a good academy, same as man city. They just poach the best youngsters off everyone else.
You rarely hear of a player being with them from a young age. Foden being an exception who signed for Man city aged 4 and Colwill who joined Chelsea as a youngster.

Man City had Trafford and Rico Lewis playing on Sunday. I bet they wish they had Cole Palmer as well so they aren't doing too badly.

Re: Omari Kellyman (Chelsea) on loan? - CONFIRMED
Rico Lewis was solely developed by them but Trafford was on the books of Carlisle

Re: Omari Kellyman (Chelsea) on loan? - CONFIRMED
A young, nippy, talented winger could be exactly what we need to get the best out of Salech

Although he has plenty to prove, this lad looks like he should definitely be a cut above League One - if he can get fit, which looks like a significant if. Hopefully, BBM will reveal soon where he seems him fitting into the side, as that's really interesting I think.
You started at page 36 & worked backwards as well then :hehe:

Re: Omari Kellyman (Chelsea) on loan? - CONFIRMED
I see Steve Borley is congratulating BBM for “pulling this out of the bag”
So who is the Man City loanee going to be?

Seemed the most sensible option, but I did eventually get to page 4.
Generally, he seemed to be regarded as an excellent prospect by the Villa fans who saw him play, but the injury stuff is obviously a concern, especially at it was apparently a hamstring injury every time.
Nice couple of clips of him scoring goals for Villa's under-21's, all through the centre of the field. No mentions of him playing as a winger on that thread that I could see. They say he strikes a ball from distance very well, several of them mentioned that and seemed impressed by his technique.

He’s 6 foot 3 apparently.

He came through at Derby before going to Villa, not a Chelsea academy player

Re: Omari Kellyman (Chelsea) on loan? - CONFIRMED
Here’s a fun fact for you: Kellyman made four first team appearances for Aston Villa. The last was as a substitute in a 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in May 2024.
Kellyman was one of two players who came on in the 68th minute. One of the players substituted was Callum Chambers in what was his final game for Villa.

And he signs the day after Palace do Villa again. Spooky:hehe:

The first big transfer I can remember is Peter Shilton going to Stoke for over £300,000. I also remember Kevin Keegan going Hamburg and being on $£90,000 a year. It seemed ridiculous at the time. I can still remember working out on my calculator how much it was per day. I think it was £243. Just checked, it's actually more like £247. I'm surprised I didn't remember that because Radio 1 used to be 247MW.

There once was a lad of 6-foot-3
The name of that lad was a O-mar-i
Brian called him up, so he flew down
To take the City home
O-MAR-I Kellyman come,
To play on the wing and make loadsa runs,
One day when his loan is done
He'll **** off back to Chel-sea
Not sure I like the end, but it's a starter for 10.

The figures you provide from Toshack's Wiki page are probably the correct ones and God knows how much the Deweys took - a fair whack though I suspect.
Ancient history now, although his sale still rankles!!

Cost us promotion that year. Who knows what would have happened to us after that, maybe no decades in the lower leagues?
His replacement was Alan Warboys, a snip at £40k, but about 6 weeks later. In the meantime we dropped a few points, eventually missing promotion by 3 points.
