Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Jonathan Agnew is annoyed that England have turned down the chance to play a two day pink ball game against an Australian team before the next test under lights at Brisbane, apparently because they don’t think they would provide serious enough opposition. Agnew’s predicting ructions within the ECB if England lose the second test. On the face of it, turning this offer of a practice match down seems bonkers.

Can't they see that anytime the players spend in the field or at the crease will be of benefit? Even if its sighting a pink ball under the lights, that will help, let alone batting in those conditions.

the attitude stinks the answers given by stokes sums them up

Crazy.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Michael Vaughan agrees it would be ‘amateurish’ for Baz and his ballers to turn down the offer of an extra practice game. It’s obvious they’re hopelessly underprepared, who do they think they are? The English media will be watching closely to see how wisely they use their time before the next test.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Agree with lots of above. The level of arrogance of coach and captain is staggering. Stokes’ interview with Agnew was petulant and immature. If Agnew had not specifically asked about England batters stokes wouldn’t have mentioned it - just hid behind travis head’s innings as the reason England lost!

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Meanwhile in India, the home side look well on their way to another defeat by South Africa which I reckon would be their fifth straight home loss.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Hard hitting stuff from Jonathan Agnew in which he seems to be using the Royal we.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Hopefully it'll mean that Asa Tribe gets to play in the Lions game. I noticed Ben Kellaway got a 50 in the 2nd innings of the last Lions match.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
I just can’t get past the utter arrogance. 5-0 incoming. If it changes the nonsense this coach and captain promote then it maybe the best thing.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
looks like wood is out ,he didnt last long just 11 overs

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Ex Glamorgan player Michael Neser in the Australian side as England lose Duckett and Pope for ducks, noe they’re 64=2.

Root finally gets 100 in Australia
-
Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
325-9 at the close, an unbroken last wicket stand of 61 between Root and Archer makes it a respectable day for England.
Shockingly bad over rate in this series so far.

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
that's at least 50 more than it looked like England getting at one point
-
Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
I wouldcsay that is about a par score for England.
Wether it represents a competitive total against this Australian team playing in Brisbane is a whole different conversation.

Every side that's got more than England has won, ever side that has fewer runs has lost.
This Australia are there for the taking. Neser and Doggett are a million miles from being test bowlers, and Boland can't be one of the main men. If England stopped repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot, shin, knee, head, hand and any appendage they can find, this should be 3-1 England
Pitiful captaincy from Smith, gave England a free 50 runs and Root may make them pay tomorrow too.
Also, my final contrinbution, ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

Tactical from Australia, no doubt about it

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
Stark is bowling well but if you keep flashing at the bowl outside off stump hes going to get wickets.
Minus Hazelwood and Cummins their attack is weak. Brook has thrown away his wicket and a quickfire hundred.

74 overs in a full day's play is shocking. If they'd have bowled 10 more, England with fewer wickets lost, could've been near 400.
I wonder if dropping Nathan Lyon was part of those tactics too? He wasn't a happy bunny.

Having two world class bowlers unavailable, dropping one of the other 2 is hilarious :hehe:

Re: OFFICIAL 2025/26 ASHES THREAD
they should penalise teams 10 runs per over they fall short of the required rate.
