Ellis Simms to Sunderland from Everton on season loan.
https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com...l-championship
There was a vague link to us a few weeks back - but most of the press speculation was about Sunderland (or back to Blackpool or Hearts). Not really 'one that got away' and not that much of a prize?

Re: other championship signings
The Jacks sold a player for 17 mill….and bought a player for 1.2 mill. Where did the remaining 15.8 million go ?

Re: other championship signings
Liam Delap linked with a loan move to Stoke

Who did they sell for £17m? I must have missed that. I saw Downes was sold for between £8m-£12m depending on which media outlet you choose to believe.

Swansea were interested a while back - maybe the impact of the new loan ruling as we are a different FA?

Re: other championship signings
Nathan Broadhead signing for Wigan and Sunderland according to Twitter. Could be interesting.

Re: other championship signings
Alfie Mawson released by Fulham and now signed a 1-year deal with League One Wycombe Wanderers. He cost Fulham around £20m in 2018. How the mighty have fallen.

Yes I thought that too. Only 28.
Just realised my post isn't strictly in keeping with this thread, but thought it was an interesting move.

Shows how far his stock has fallen!
Not a Champ deal but Smithies is joining Leicester.

Good move for him. Shame we didn't get anything for a player who's clearly considered to be premier league quality.

Yes, both posts are more Championship-related, but still of interest

Turkish top flight team Konyaspor are on the verge of signing Uche Ikpeazu on a free transfer. Great move for him as they finished in 3rd last season.

Apparently Southampton and Brentford are interested in him , but Brentford have signed Lewis -Potter from Hull for £17m.
12 goals for him last year for Hull. Davies has to be worth more than £2.5m if you take the Brentford fee into account.

I doubt that Smithies will play many games for Leicester. He was pretty poor in his last two seasons with us.

He will probably be the Leicester 'Brian Murphy' - always there, always professional, no trouble, and available if there is ever a crisis.

Didn’t realise Middlesbrough had signed Alex Mowatt on loan for the rest of the season.

Re: other championship signings
Liam Delap to Stoke seems like it is going ahead

That really shouldn't be allowed.

Re: other championship signings
seems way over the odds for a player that Watford bought last year for £3.6 million

Remember back in 2016 when Cardiff signed Kenneth Zohore 'on loan' from KV Kortrijk on the very same day he'd joined them in a £1 million transfer from OB Odense? City were under a transfer embargo for breaching FFP rules and were only allowed to sign players on loan.
At the time, a Football League spokesman said: "From the information made available to the Football League so far, we are satisfied that there isn't any evidence to suggest this transaction is being designed to circumvent the club's Financial Fair Play embargo and it is consistent with how clubs in common ownership operate. Ownership of a number of clubs by a single ownership vehicle is not uncommon in world football, with the success of the Pozzo family, whose clubs include Watford, being the most prominent current example."

yeah I did think about our Zohore deal, but I think this Watford one is on another level of dodgyness.
we had a transfer embargo so we loaned a player via Kortrijk instead of buying him directly, then later bought him when we were out of the embargo.
in this latest deal Watford appear to have paid well over the odds for a player in order to increase their income and be able to spend more in England without falling foul of FFP.
a player they bought in January for 3 ish million they suddenly sell for £16 million and have him loaned back for the season.
no way would anyone else have offered that money for him.
how has his value increased so much following 19 games and a relegation. They only won 2 of the games he played in for them in the premier League.

Let's be honest, it's all just shithousery of one sort or another. As long as it's within the rules, so be it.
