Funny, I can’t remember anyone called Pipster posting on here when Thatcher died. You’re not yet another right wing multi are you?
I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, you come on a thread about Drakeford stepping down comparing Thatcher to Glenys Kinnock, then start going on about pits being closed. What’s any of it got to do with Mark Drakeford?

Has Mark Drakeford been a good First Minister?
Yes
23%
No
77%
For all the people who thought Mark Drakeford was the right man in the pandemic, there were a sizeable number who thought he was too cautious, too slow to give freedom back and who made the wrong call time after time. There was a growing number within his party too who thought he had it wrong. He was too focused on his legacy, not the basics like awful education or health standards, his style, the way he did things, there was growing discontent and anger towards him within his party, and in polls.
Not only had his personal approvals plummeted, but Welsh Labour's too. The popularity of Sir Keir Starmer had grown. An ITV Cymru Wales/Barn Cymru poll last week saw Mark Drakeford's popularity with the Welsh public is at an 18-month low as more than half of respondents (56%) believe he is doing a bad job of being First Minister.
You are quoting a poll from wales online? Frequented by the biggest group of nutters you could dare put together in one place.

Re: Mark Drakeford to resign?
It's a shame he's going to be hanging around till Easter as he's very toxic now
Can't he just leave and be done with it ?
I don't have any sympathy for hi though he should have resigned after we came out of lockdown
I hope a relatively quiet type is appointed so the Tories get back in their box and Plaid just wave their arms about

Same old story
We want independence shout Plaid
But when it comes down to it people just won't vote for it
If Drakeford was replaced by a decent leader and Labour pulled back on a few clear policy screw ups it would be the end of the show again
A junior partner in a coalition is fair enough but once the idea of a independent Wales comes about the majority of the population turn up their noses

Hmmmm a Poll that a section of posters here won't agree with the outcome, that'll never wash, I can hear calls for another poll right now, with exact options, a simple yes or no just doesnt work these days

So initially you argued that Drakeford wasn't fit for the role as it would be above his understanding as he was "just" a social worker. Now it's been pointed out that he's intellectually very capable and has plenty of political experience it's "common sense" that is needed. Make your mind up.
I'm no fan of Drakeford's, but he's clearly not an idiot and we certainly could have had a far worse FM than him

What on earth are you babbling on about? He announced he'd stand down in this term years ago and easily won the last election

Re: Mark Drakeford to resign?
Hopefully Plaid can use this to their advantage, they really need to pray on the protest votes as it's a bit of a free swing for traditional Labour voters.
It's near enough impossible they will be able to get a full majority so they would lean on another party like Labour or Lib dems to give them that majority, they would have to play it safe as any if they tried forcing anything the public didn't like they'd never get in again.
I think voting a Welsh party in Wales is a logical choice, the "english" parties haven't served Wales particularly well. Plaid have rightfully stopped pushing independence, they need to get into power then prove why it's needed (which wouldn't be difficult).

If you're going to jump to conclusions regarding a poll, let's see the whole thing first
https://www.itv.com/news/wales/2023-...public-and-why
Labour have dropped eight points in the voting intentions poll and yet still have a twenty two point lead over any other party. As for Drakeford, there's an explanation as to why he's less popular than he was a year ago, but it's also added that he is still more popular than any other Welsh party leader.
Just trying to add some LoM style balance, I'm no great fan of Drakeford and think it's time Labour had a new person in charge who'll make trying to change the poor Health and Education statistics in Wales a priority.
-
Re: Mark Drakeford to resign?
While the Tories are in power in Westminster, Labour will coast to electoral victories in Wales as much of the vote is effectively anti-Tory.
When Labour get in nationally then I'm sure Labour will still retain power in Wales but people will be more inclined to vote against them. This will be especially likely if Wales carries on getting progressively worse compared to the rest of the UK regions on socio-economic indicators, which they have done while Labour has been in power in Wales.

The figures you've quoted are for Westminster voting intention. The Senedd poll is much closer and Labour would be nowhere near a majority, especially in an expanded SeneddAttachment 5958

Well I hope that the first thing any new labour leader does is scrap the idea of an expanded Welsh assembly
That's utter madness
And secondly bin the 20 mph nonsense

All we need now is an update from the club to say that Runnerson has left Cardiff city and returned to Arsenal.
It will be a double win

If it was either or, I would keep Runnerson even if Arsenal insisted he play as Stiker, you have to take the biggest wins when you can.

Re: Mark Drakeford to resign?
Vaughan Gethin to stand
Rebecca Evans finance minister is backing him which is a shame as I think she would be a good leader
He's OK but got to be better than Drakeford
I would be better than Drakeford

Re: Mark Drakeford to resign?
I know more about half the english Labour MPs than I do about Vaughn Gethin
There's things I agree with Labour in Wales on, plenty I don't.
Lets see what Vaughn Gethin brings as I think it's pretty done and dusted that he's going to replace Mark Drakeford.
