We look lost without a striker though and if Robinson is not fit I’m not sure what the answer is but I know it isn’t Willock Meite or Kanga.
Not sure what has happened to Daland, he looked so impressive on his debut but was all over the place today and no idea what Ng was playing at for most of the game.
A lot of possession but not in any area to hurt Blackburn
I don't know what it is with NG these days. Yeah, he's always had that 'wind-up-merchant', niggly aspect to his game, however, he didn't win 'Player Of The Year' award for two consecutive seasons solely based on this.
But he seems to have abandoned ability in favour of the darker side of the game.

Simic not even on the bench for Kortrijk today. He's not going to be the answer to our striker problem.

Extremely naive & missing a captain / authority on the field. We basically played 4-2-4. We also kept hitting high balls into the box when we didn’t have anyone to get on the end of them.

Agree totally. I was thinking during the game that our corners were pointless. May just as well give goal kick to Blackburn.

If Luton hadn't scored a late consolation we would have gone up a place.

Even at amateur level they know you don't have the goalie as captain. He's detached from the game, from his players, and from the ref. I'm sure Robertson or Turnbull could do a better job.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 3 BLACKBURN ROVERS. Match thread
Today - and to a lesser degree on Wednesday - we reverted to type. Very slow and deliberate, no real pattern of play, the players didn't really know how to find a way through Blackburn. When they sat back we did have a lot of possession and showed greater urgency, but I've come round to the idea that we've had a pretty decent 'new manager bounce', and normal service is resumed. Blackburn had just come of a bad run but they have players who are sharper and quicker than our best..

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 3 BLACKBURN ROVERS. Match thread
We just seemed to carry on the poor performance from the Luton game. We really struggle without a target man, and though not playing with a recognised striker may briefly confuse a defence, it doesn't half limit your options.

Had a very good spell and I hoped for a Norwich recovery. Too blunt and felt if they needed another goal they would just go up and get it, which they did. I think the midweek loss was worse than this one. Blackburn looked a good side.

thankfully I didn't drag the family down to C4rdf to watch that and having been at Luton in the week it emphasises that we still have a major battle on our hands.
someone has already said it but Ng doesn't seem the player he has been, El Ghazi needs a spell on loan in NZ or somewhere a bloody long way from Cardiff. Meite needs more game time, Kanga? Well Kanga?
Willock looked ok today.
And now no football for the friggin intl break.

That says it all, looks like leaving Daaland out hasn’t done him much good. El Gaza can just do one…..

I can only assume that as they used to say 'his legs have gone'. With him, Kanga and our £2m striker in Belgium you do wonder if there aren't 3 players in the Championship who are contributing absolutely zero to the cause..

The high balls into the box were maybe something they had practised in training? Especially in the 2nd half, hoping that the useless Meite would get on the end of something?

We could have scored from an early free kick where he was doing his shithouse routine and got penalized for it, he then proceeded commit an obvious foul on halfway with plenty of players covering where he was lucky not to be booked, and then did the exact same thing from a set piece to get a foul whistled against him a few mins later. Fun and games until we do get a goal wiped off from a set piece or he gets a cheap red card.
Seems clear that referees are focusing on him... when he's playing great it's one thing but on days like today you maybe wish he'd just get on with concentrating on the game.

We don't play 4 at the back in possession, COD plays extremely high and wide. He plays as a winger while Willock/AEG goes inside. For some reason, Ng went into midfield (and he did against Luton too) and it means we are extremely susceptible to counter attacks. Naive is one way of putting it, idiotic is another

Without a doubt. In fact, I think it would be far better to get rid of referees and have one fan from each side to ref the game.

Turnbull?? Despite a decent performance at Luton, he does not look captain material to me. In any way.

Referee today wasn't very good , its disappointing to see the referee playing a major role in a game .
I pay my money to watch the two teams do battle , not someone( who cant be subbed) who isn't up to the task play a starring role.
Most of the refs this season have been of a decent standard..
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 3 BLACKBURN ROVERS. Match thread
I thought Daland looked rusty, as did Robertson. NG had a poor game. El Ghazi should be dropped. Willock looked decent and I though Turnbull looked good. We definitely missed having a striker, how long have we been saying that for?

It’s often an excuse that the players are tired so arranging a friendly to get some up to speed may be counterproductive.

He might not have been the greatest referee we’ll ever see at the CCS, but why do you believe he played a major role in the game? He awarded City a penalty, which looked the correct decision to me. Apart from that, what did he do that equated to him playing a starring role?

i've only seen it once but just before half time when Robertson was taken out I thought the Blackburn player was in danger of being sent off, but the foul went against us. did the referee get that one right?

Course he didn’t, but it seems we’re not allowed to say the officials are crap these days. On Wednesday the ref was criticised by Riza (the first time he’s done that I believe) for being inconsistent in his interpretation of what was a foul. That was exactly what I was thinking watching the game and let’s not forget that he missed a clear penalty for Luton. If anything, I’d say yesterday’s ref was worse - I’ve said in another thread he wasn’t the reason we lost, but that doesn’t mean that he should not be criticised for being poor - as for the incident you mention, I thought it was an accidental collision between the two players and wouldn’t have given a foul either way.

I don’t know. I haven’t seen a replay. The ref might well have got that one wrong for all I know. Refs get decisions wrong all the time. They also get a lot of decisions right which fans disagree with because of their own affiliations.
I just find the continual moaning about officials (both during matches and on social media) utterly tedious. If it happened once in a while when a ref had made a blatant error I’d have no problem with it. But it seems to happen throughout and after every game these days.
There were times yesterday when the Canton Stand and half of the Ninian Stand were angrily berating the officials and demanding free kicks for challenges on Colwill and Tanner that were nothing more than straightforward tackles. It was laughable.

I think it’s a lot down to the more intense analysis of refereeing decisions in the media and on tv probably. Personally I thought yesterday was one of the more bizarre performances - giving a foul for Cantwell in the second half for example when no City player was anywhere near him! Also, their 3rd goal NG was clearly pushed in the back in the challenge leading up to it, right in front of the ref. Also, the assistant by the Ninian was obviously of the opinion that shirt pulling, even a yard from him, was fine. It’s inconsistency that I think most frustrates fans - the award of free kicks outside the box when similar offences rarely result in penalties, warning goalkeepers numerous times about time wasting before the yellow card appears usually late in the game, goal kicks and throw ins and all the faffing about that goes with them! City are as guilty of these things of course but as fans we pay to watch a game of football, not the ref and time wasting.

Ah right, I see. I understood the manager was looking to get some game time for players who haven’t been getting much though.

I'm a glutton for punishment, so I recorded the game, and watched back some of the critical moments.
Ref was definitely "whistle-happy". As for the collision at the end of the 1st half, both players went for the ball leading with their arms. He could have let it go, awarded a foul either way or even booked both. From his viewpoint, he prob got it right. The lino on the Ninian side was useless.
