he's like our 7th most expensive ever signing, absolute waste of money

I agree. Think people overlooked the couple of assists from him which helped us over the line. Arguably worth the £6m fee?
Not that I would argue with the Tyson Fury of the EFL.

Gavin Gordon. Looked world class when he played against us, then we signed him….

We were the highest scorers out of the 92 in 00/01, but if you added in all of the own goals we scored as well, we would have got about 120.
A player who scored two own goals that season doesn’t qualify for this question I reckon - Andy Jordan definitely made an impression while he was here.
Andy Jordan.... What a player..... I'm going to throw in Gethin Jones and Kevin Evans, and later on emyr Hughes, although i have a bugging feeling either evans or jones scored a late winner in a game...

Madine played 13 times for us, and wasn't beyond useless. He was a massive, massive overpay but we just got over the line. I don't think we get promoted if we didn't sign another striker to give Zohore a rest (and replace him when injured)

Evans scored a few goals that season doesn’t - Chesterfield were promoted on the back of some financial misdemeanours that were eventually discovered and he scored in both games against them.

We didn’t sign a striker though, we signed Madine!

I disagree with that, and Madine is better than half of the players Deboys has signed :hehe:
Not even sure that's a windup :hehe:

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Javi Guerra
Kevin Evans
That Argentinian central defender Warnock signed but he left having never played Max Von Someone

Maximiliano Amondarian (I think) - but like some other signings who are maybe expected to become first team regulars he never got past the u21s. 0 appearances, 0 goals, 0 impressions, 0 regrets. Didn’t he arrive in the summer before the Malky Show in the Premier League?

No he didn’t. He was awful.

I only remembered him Dennis as someone else mentioned Stuart O’Keefe (which is a great answer) who I think we signed at the same time in some sort of ‘double swoop’.
And yet both were entirely unremarkable.

I will forever be grateful to Gavin Gordon for the way he clattered into Rio Ferdinand in the FA Cup game against Leeds in 2001, and Ferdinand had to go off injured. Ferdinand had to hobble past the Grandstand (Canton End) who rose as one out of their seats, to chant "what a waste of money" at him. The look on his face as he gazed up at us was priceless. For that act alone, GG was worth his signing fee. 500,000 I think?
Some great replies in this thread, by the way. More than half the players mentioned I had totally forgotten about. There again, it's no surprise why this is the case

I think we all assumed he was going to make the first team because of his name. There was little to suggest from a footballing point of view that he would.

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Micky Burns
Signed from Newcastle one month, straight back to Boro a couple of months later?
Or it might have been the other way round?

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Isaac Vassell made 3 appearances in 3 seasons, but he did score an injury time winner in one of those.
Made quite an impression on the physio table though.

Marley Watkins had a brief but stellar career with us - like Vassell he made an impression, but not for the reasons we would want!

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Kurt "no goals" Nogan - shame as he's a lovely bloke and city fan, was a great hope that one!

Yeah seemed a very good signing!
109 goals in 280 games for Preston Burnley and Brighton before us.
Then 1 in 18 for us!

He was finished when he came to us, his knee was shot, he came for a bigger wage packet. I grew up with him in Llanedeyrn and played junior football with him, his brother had a pro career as well. Really nice family.

Adrian harris and nathan cadette other ex llanedeyrn high boys who got first team appearances for the city.

I know Nathan ( Shaper) and Crocker was a year younger than me. Well wood lad. He's a technical director at Soccer USA now, in charge of every level. There's a load more from Llanedeyrn who I grew up with, Lee Stephens, a good mate of mine, he played a couple of first team games.

Yeah he's done really well. Did a lot with the FA and Southampton. Credited for them appointing nathan jones...... also got poch for USA as got him for Southampton. Gwyn williams still lives out there also.
I was going to say shaper. Lol. And yeah Lee was class and his brother Carl has done so much for the community with the apollo boxing gym which has sadly just closed I believe.
The patten brothers the last of the llanedeyrn high production line before the bulldozers came in!

Crocker did a two year apprenticeship but wasn't taken on, he was in the same year as Nathan Jones ( I was the year above) and they were very good mates.......😂 Crocker got involved with Gavin Tait, the Youth Development officer who had come to the club in 89 from Southampton, and Crocker assumed a coaching role when he was released at 18 or 19. Good on the lad . Another very good player from Llanedeyrn High was Andrew Gee, he was with City for two years.

Yes, he played for Dagenham against us in The league cup and we signed him soon after. Seem to remember he was way out of his depth in the championship in his few appearances.

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Rolf Feltscher - big haired Swiss/Venezuelan defender with some pedigree. Harry Redknapp had him on trial at Birmingham till he was sacked he told Warnock about him, Warnock had him on trial then a 2 month contract before he went off having only been an unused sub.

There's only one Chris Konopka
One of the few bluebirds nobody ever saw play, Brad Smith. I think Osei-Tutu is the other

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
Some daft shouts on this thread.
Gareth Stoker was a fans favourite in his time here, so obviously made some impression, and Kevin Evans played plenty of games and scored a few goals in a promotion winning season.
Tuerto and many on this thread need to get out more. Now the seasons over and you can’t moan about matches and players you turn your attention to moaning about players from 30 years ago. :hehe:
A week on this forum and even Timmy Mallet would become depressed.

Gareth Stoker was fans favourite for looking like the sort who could duff you up rather than any impression on the football pitch, he hardly played for us.

According to Wikipedia Brad Smith played 3 games and Osei-Tutu 8 games. I don't remember seeing them, but someone must have.

I remember Osei-Tutu (now with Bolton) but Brad Smith is a complete blank. I was naively optimistic about Osei-Tutu because of the Arsenal pedigree, but apart from a few moments - followed by an injury? - he faded away.

Re: Players who make/made no impression.
What about Gerrard renowned for celebrating with Liverpool players when they beat us in the league cup final. And Velinwhat's his name.

He played 7 minutes against Leeds, 1 minute against Derby, and 5 minutes against Hull, and was in the squad 12 times in total. He was signed by Neil Harris on loan from Seattle.

You reckon Anthony Gerrard made no impression at Cardiff?
He made 39 Championship appearances for the Bluebirds side that finished 4th in 2009/10 and appeared twice for City at Wembley.
Some of the posts in this thread are bonkers.
