Made hard work of that last few minutes. Should have finished them off long before the end.
Not good if Ashford is suspended Saturday.

OK, that's not too bad. We can run Nyakuhwa, Davies, Kellyman and Willock as options against Newport and give Ashford a rest. Give him the full 90 maybe in the game before and then a nice week break.

Thought Perrett did well.

He did. I thought Giles grew into the game and Mafico won the ball back so many times after his initial wayward pass

Yeah he did.
I wouldn't be worried about Perrett or Mafico stepping in during league games if we have
injuries.

I think it was because of chants calling the keeper a p*edo.
Plenty of tannoy announcements saying the game was going to get abandoned even after it has stopped.
No issue with the Exeter fans singing sheep shagger songs all game of course.

We are, though, aren't we?..

Mafico had some good playmaking tonight, I think he's settled nicely into the CDM role in terms of chance creation.

Still very undecided about Ashford - he isn’t effective enough

Ashford has finesse, but he's not a player that can muscle past defenders, which I think you need more of at this level.
I think he can shine in the Championship where it's less about brute strength from the wing-backs, and more about stylish play. They tend to throw a hard CB on the wingers at League One who can win physical contests.

Should we make the Vertu final, surely we’ll be the only team to ever be able to say we’ve played at Wembley in the Prem, FA Cup, League Cup, playoffs and Football League Trophy

I liked Ashford, i had him down as a thinker, he used his body well, put himself in positions that would benefit him greatly before he received the ball. He's a player who can slow things down a little, he's not urgent on the ball in my opinion, and i don't mind that. I think that he's stalled a little, whether thats down to development or the way we are playing now, the spoil tactics in this god awful division, i don't know. I hope that he kicks on, he's still only 19? He'll have a fill out over the next 18 months or so.

I can remember a young city player making their debut at Oxford wearing 52. I remember commenting at the end of the game that the biggest complement I could give him was I forgot he was there as he fitted in seamlessly. Echo that tonight.
The player at Oxford was Joe Ralls.

Might be that he is one of the players that doesn't fit ideally in the BBM system. He seemed to be able to go both ways and sniff out a chance when more central but hugging the touchline might limit his abilities.

Re: FT: EXETER CITY 0 - 1 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Apart from getting sent off I thought Ashford played well and also didn't shirk a physical battle and showed some good strength.
Must have watched a different game.😂

Agree with that- thought he played well tonight but hasn't had a great start to the season otherwise- often seems to lack pace but undoubtably a technical player with good awareness- let's hope he finds his mojo.

He's no slouch. I think that he'll come good, He's a good footballer, he conserves his energy well, He has a football brain in my opinion.

He's allowed to come inside when he plays out wide, although i agree with you in thinking that playing in a wider position can stifle his game a bit. I'm not sure this new style of play suits him, although it's very early on, Ashford is still developing as well. He's never really been hyped on here like other players who have come through the system, in fact he isn't really talked about much. I don't know how far he will go, or how he will develop, but one thing i am sure of is that he has a brain for football.

Despite being empty, that terraced home end looked amazing. I wish we could have one of those.
