Since then, he has said in public multiple times that he intends to be a dictator - I wouldn't say that's great for democracy either.
If you take trump out of it and imagine this was someone running for mayor somewhere then there'd be no question - they are clearly not suitable to be eligible to run for public office. High ranking republicans dont think he's suitable, and the likes of McConnell and Graham said so immediately after the attack but soon changed their tune because they are frightened of him and his base. I'd say that's not good for democracy either.
I'd prefer him to be on the ballot and soundly beaten at the election, but I can't say it's good for democracy to have someone like him in the running. All countries (I would expect at least) have rules to disqualify certain people from running for public office, and these rules are not undemocratic, they are a vital safeguard that allows democracies to survive.
It’s going to be a very worrying time for Europe if Trump somehow wins again…..he’s clearly in Putins pocket. Unbelievably yanks are so dumb they might just vote him in, his main voters don’t own passports, have never left America and probably never will.

The Judge’s quote I used is the same whether it appeared in the Guardian or the Daily Mail - really feeble comeback there if I may say so.

Re: The Donald Trump thread
These are starting to take on the appearance of show trials now.
He should be convicted and banned from running by now for whipping up an insurrection . That process seems to have gone quiet, while a whole bunch of jumped up loons at a state level are going after him for nonsense. Scum like Willis and this chump in new York have made it more likely he gets elected(with all the disasters that will bring) and made a mockery of the US legal process as they do it. Utterly shameful. I hope to god trump doesn't get another term. But if he does then I really hope he goes after and ruins the lives of these state prosecutors

What's wrong with taking someone who's committed hundreds of millions of dollars of fraud to court?

Let's hope they have the decency to apologise to Mr Papadopoulos for perpetuating a fraud conducted by career criminals.

Citizen Journo Tracy Beanz did the best reporting on this IMO, for me the best Citizen Journo was Rex but he seems to have disappeared off the scene, I sometime wonder if he re-branded himself as Clandestine who does some fine work :sherlock:

It's a character flaw that most shifty people share, so I can see why they are drawn to each other.
