Re: EUROS thread. Sunday 30th June 2024.
Georgia look so sharp on the counter attack. Great game to watch. Spain playing well , especially when it goes through Williams. All seems to fizzle out as soon as yamal gets anywhere near it though. Great strike by Rodri

Kvaratskhelia is an out and out winger, unfortunately he spends 90% of the game defending in his own half when he plays for Georgia.

Kvaratskhelia misses an open goal!

Thought it got a deflection.
And then they go 2-1 down.

He’s never 16, looks about 12. What a career in front of him.

Can header the ball like a bullet. Deadly from free kicks. He can hammer the shot from distance with either foot. 15 goals in 30 international games, in a relatively poor international team. 6 foot tall, strong as an ox and he works hard to track back and tackle. For me, the complete attacking player.
This boy will light up this group for sure. If you ain’t seen him before, crack open a beer, order your favourite take-away, and enjoy the personal performance of a generational talent. This man is a class act. He is “The Tits”.
Off to bed now
Thank f uck I won’t have too keep on watching this 2nd (being kind), rate footballer.
Can’t see a top 100 Club shelling out for a league of Wales player

He's already playing for a top 100 team who were in the Champions League last season, and the only thing stopping a move to another Champions League team is his club Napoli.
Sweet dreams

Sorry, should have made myself more clear, when I said top 100 team, I meant a top 100 team in Great Britain.

Re: EUROS thread. Sunday 30th June 2024.
Spain had 35 shots yesterday, 13 on target (in 90 minutes).
England had 16 and 2 (in 120).

Re: EUROS thread. Sunday 30th June 2024.
Have to feel a little for Slovakia, better team performance over the 90 but one (only?) moment of quality from England with seconds to go changes the game.
Even when England win, the relationship between manager/players/media/fans feels toxic. It isn’t out of the realms of possibility they win the tournement with performances like yesterday’s, get their hands on silverware for the first time in over half a century, and they’ll still all hate each others’ guts.

I thought Slovakia got things wrong. They tried to defend virtually the entire second half and that always asks for trouble, even if the opposition doesn't look like scoring. It only takes one ball into the box to drop in the right area, one deflected shot, one misplaced clearance or header and it's in the net.
I don't understand why teams do it. They get into a winning position by playing a certain way, then think we'll stop doing this and hold on to what we've got. It invites pressure. It reminded me a bit of us at Leeds on the opening day of last season. Ahead, deservedly so and playing well, then sat back. Southampton and Ipswich were guilty of it against us. It was almost as if it was a case of "what a result this would be, we have to protect it". It could be said that Slovakia, as we were on that day, were moments away from a terrific victory and those defensive tactics would have been hailed as the right thing. But how often are there late equalisers or winners in games, often where teams try to see things out and not bother having any attacking threat? Too many.

That's exactly what England do too, which is why a lot of England fans want Southgate out. Contrast with Spain last night who went 2-1 then looked for a 3rd and a 4th.
Your opponent can't equalise while they're defending.

There's also that thing of letting the opposition have the ball for long periods when you're ahead. They can't equalise when you've got the ball.

It’s mystifying why teams do it. When Kane put England ahead at the start of Extra time, they should have busted a gut to get a 3rd.
As it was, they sat back again, and the Slovaks were pressing for an equaliser in the dying minutes.

Unfortunately, with their poxy luck, I think their name is on the trophy :frown:
