Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
idowu has been really good since he came on, and Bowen has a lovely first touch
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
finished 4-5 to Charlton.
enjoyed the second half though

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A winner for Charlton in added time - they win 5-4.
I'm not usually one to moan too much about refs, but this one was shocking - every major decision went Charlton's way.
In the end, the effort put in to get back to 4-4 from 4-1 down and the sending off meant that we were very tired in the last few minutes and we ended up conceding - we didn't deserve to lose that and wouldn't have done if there'd been a ref who was even handed in his decision making.

Same system as the first team, not many other similarities though. Terrific second half, I agree.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I wonder if McWilliams has earned himself the unused substitutes spot this week.
Idowu can't be far off either.

The pressing game was very similar and I thought we were more direct in the first half.

Think we may see Colwill there again tomorrow.

It was more of a comparison with Saturday really. I wonder how long us and Boro would've had to play for it to finish 5-4? When Malky lost to Charlton by that score he went into his shell and still hasn't come out of it, I trust Morison won't do the same.

That didn't work out, he's back already. They're flying for now so perhaps it's understandable he couldn't break in there.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A couple of early goals in the Academy's game at Charlton today. Ryan Kavanagh put us 1-0 up after two minutes and the home side equalised on eleven minutes - it's half time now and it's still 1-1.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Charlton win it 2-1 with a late goal.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Another home Development team match today which is being shown on the club website - this one's against Watford and kicks off at 1 o clock.

Hoilett, Williams, Smithies, Watters, Harris and Tomlin all start.

Bit disappointed with that, would rather watch the youngsters play. I always wonder about the attitude of senior players in games like this.

Is there was a limit of 3 overage players (excluding goalkeeper) allowed in an u23 line up?

That was the rule when it switched from under 21 to under 23 nearly ten years ago, I’d suspect it still applies.

Surely, Watters and Harris qualify for U-23s.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
With only three outfield subs named, it means some of the seniors will play the full ninety minutes. I wonder if Hoilett is going to play left wing back?

I hope Martin gets a chance to show what he can do there.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
1-0 to City, Mark Harris.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
2-0 Watters, just before half time.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
just turned it on to see a great goal, was that watters?
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
looks like the first goal was going in for watters too but Harris poked it in on the line

Looked Watters effort was going wide to me.
Good run and finish for his second though, made easier by Harris's run which ooened up the gap.
Decent FK by Tomlin who looks to have lost a few pounds since last week.
Either that or he's chucked some body armour on :hehe:

quotee from the commentator
"Lee Tomlin's got on the end of this loose ball ...oh, no he hasn't"
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Martin is playing well, getting forward.
Cardiff are well on top here
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
3 nil. Watters.
Defensively Watford ain't great.
Could be a cricket score here if they want it.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
what on earth was that cross field ball from Tomlin
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Smithies saves a penalty.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Hoilett didn't practice LWB.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Was Tomlin taken off because he's in the mix for a squad place on Saturday or because they still don't think he can do ninety minutes? I'd say the latter.

I think they wanted to give some minutes to the kids as the game was won. Kavanagh looked decent when he came on
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Was it the same formation with wing-backs we're becoming used to? If yes, what positions did Watters, Harris, Hoilett, Tomlin and Williams start off in and did it mix at all?

No, 4-4-2 with Bowen and Tomlin in central midfield, Hoilett on the right, Williams the left (although he came in field a lot) and maybe Harris played slightly behind Watters.

Thank you
I like the sound of Harris behind Watters but Tomlin in CM seems odd given he's unlikely to play that position at senior level.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I hoped to see Hoilett given a go at Left Wing Back perhaps we already know he can play that role ?
