This is how I see it: they won’t stop until Hamas is completely eliminated, which would only happen if the area is entirely destroyed and uninhabited. He makes extreme statements, so that when negotiations happen, people end up much closer to what he actually wants. If he wanted to buy your £1 million house, he’d start by offering £10.

Yeah the last couple of paragraphs there are spot on. And it has to be said in business it's not a bad approach even if it is confrontational.
The problem is in the geopolitical world you have to be far more sensitive to confrontational or controversial opinions as there are passions far greater than money at play.

How is the global warming situation out there, is everybody as terrified as we are?

Not terrified (I don’t know anyone who is terrified - plenty who are very worried) but most understand the climate is changing and it is mostly not natural.
The fear here is another tsunami - which I don’t think has anything to do with warming.

Last night's league cup semi final won't have helped in this respect.

I think the problem is he's a textbook narcissist and he has zero empathy for anyone and only sees the bottom line

He's also an abject failure at business. Unlike 'daddy owned diamonds' Musk who has used his privilege to make more money, Trump would have been worth more today if he had just invested his large inheritance, rather than running multiple failed businesses.
The only time he has been successful is playing a businessman on The Apprentice. It's not like the American public to confuse fact and fiction though.

Narcissist for sure and the bottom line is America first etc. not sure I buy the total lack of sympathy thing though. Again, we don't always have to be totally binary on these things.

The bottom line is Trump first, not America first.

You would consider Trump a sympathetic person?
The man who called American troops killed in combat “suckers” and “losers”.
Who bragged about having the tallest building in lower Manhattan on the day of 9/11.
Told grieving parents guns are needed for “entertainment and sports” when asked about his gun control policies after a school shooting.
Mocked a disabled journalist at a rally and bragged how his wealth lets him sexually assault women.
Made multiple insulting comments about John McCain after his death and called him “a loser” for being a POW.
And whose own family and staff members have come out and said he lacks empathy and sympathy.

I said I dont buy the "total lack of sympathy" argument.
I clearly view things in less black and white terms than you, although that's an interesting list of 6 examples from the last quarter of a century, there is no need to entirely dehumanise people, and I would say they are more examples of him being a vindictive c*nt. Personally, I dont think it's true that he is entirely unsympathetic as I think he does care about his base and I do think he cares about American people, yes.
But this is an utterly pointless discussion as any deviation from the man being the devil will not be tolerated or understood!

Re: The Donald Trump thread
The thing is with Trump, everything is black and white. That's how is brain works i.e., not very well.

Re: The Donald Trump thread
I'm not accusing him of lacking sympathy because of small things like he didn't wish his colleague well after they broke their leg, or didn't send condolences to a neighbour when their dog got hit by a car. I'm saying he lacks it because he has made disparaging and insulting comments about Americans killed in WW2 and Vietnam POWs and bragged about his gains during 9/11, a day with the most Americans killed (not died) since 1862, and that's if you include Confederate soldiers.
You accuse people of being one dimensional and thinking in black and white and completely miss the irony that you're just the same. Every single comment, you have to be contrarian. No matter what, you have to play the "sitting on the fence" persona.
People can make arguments for his policies, I wouldn't have voted for him but I understand why people did. Likewise for Brexit, UKIP, Reform, etc. I can see arguments for giving them a vote, even if I wouldn't myself.
But this, I do not believe he is a sympathetic man and I don't think you do either. You're just entrenched in the "see both sides" mindset that you have to argue back. Despite his family, his peers and his colleagues coming out and saying he lacks compassion/empathy/sympathy, and numerous instances of him lacking it, you'll still argue it. Those were just 6 instances off the top of my head. I'm sure it would be extremely easy to find plenty more comments he's made about victims of hurricanes, floods, wildfires, shootings, assault or the unemployed, homeless and disabled, etc.
And the funny thing is, I have no doubt a huge chunk of his voters see that as a sign of strength and applaud it. I'm sure he himself would be proud to be seen as unsympathetic, but you'll still say he isn't like that. I actually could just about believe he purposely plays it up to appeal to his supporters more. However, I don't think it's an act and I simply think it's his true self.

Re: The Donald Trump thread
Yesterday he signed an executive order excluding men from women's sport. An absurd but sadly necessary action and a ludicrous open goal to offer. Trump might be driving a clown car but the democrats helped to service it.

I'm only contrarian because that's the reality. If someone says Cardiff City are the best team in the world. I'll be contrarian. If someone says we are the worst, I'll be contrarian. If someone says Trump is the greatest politician on earth I'll dispute that. If someone says he is the devil with no redeeming features I will also dispute that.
This idea of things and people beng all good and all bad is daft. More than daft, it's just false. If you find yourself thinking it (and I have in the past) then look for opinions from the other side and I soon come to a more balanced opinion.
The guy is a prick. But the idea he cares not a jot about his base or American people..no, I don't buy that.

So, what’s he done for the ordinary American man and woman?l
