Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Unfortunate for Benjamin to make that mistake, we really need another centre back in though, there seems to be a real lack of pace in the defence. Wouldn't be hugely confident going into the season with Goutas, McGuinness, Simpson and Benjamin as our only options

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
basically Benfica and Porto have dominated the Portuguese league for the last 50 years.

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Handing out yellow cards like it's going out of fashion...

I’d have NG ahead of two of those. We certainly need a CB though.

As a centre back in a back 4? His lack of aerial presence is massively exposed when he plays there

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Be interesting to see how the mixture of opposition standard we’ve played this pre season impacts on our start to the season.

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Ends 0 - 4. For a game with four goals, numerous yellow cards, a penalty, and a goal disallowed, it was strangely dull. Not a great game to watch, to be honest and the ref didn't help - he was awful. Let's hope Bulut learnt something from it.

I would still start him ahead of Simpson and Benjamin, this is why we need another CB. I’m not even sure McGuiness is up to it.

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Just need another fecking 10 players to go with Ramsey.
-
Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Thought City played well in patches. Gifted goals which is a worry, but hopefully will get that out the system. Some lovely touches from Ramsey.

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
It’s a glorified training exercise so I wouldn’t read too much into it. However our passing out from the back looks like a disaster waiting to happen with the current personnel

Think we held our own in the first half during which there were several good opportunities which could have resulted in City scoring. Ojo is simply not good enough, however, at this level and his finishing at times left a lot to be desired. After FC Porto went 3-0 up it was effectively game over. City really do need a stonger defence as this area is clearly lacking at present. Interesting game but a fair result as Porto were by far the better team..

I agree about the ref, but I enjoyed a lot of the game - and a lot of our play.
There were a lot of positives, a few very good performances, a style of play that I like and haven't seen from us for 10 years, a lot of worrying mistakes (and some weak performances) to work on or change, and a lot more minutes in the bank.

I don't think that was a good example of 'Ojo is simply not good enough'.
I have very limited expectations of Ojo - experience killing hope - but he was one of our better performers in that first half.

Re: FC PORTO v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Benjamin and Adams gifted them two easy goals, and we gave them a penalty.
If we had swapped keepers Ojo and Kieran Evans would have scored and Costa would have probably saved one of theirs at least.
Their keeper is amazing our's rubbish, and the game showed how important the keeper's position is.
All the defence were poor, Mcguiness especially.
Ojo played well one off the line and a great strike with a great save, Ramsey showed a bit of quality and almost scored from his first touch.
It's not the end of the World the score line was not a fair reflection and they are a quality side.
It might just have done us a favour Dalman, Choo and Bulut can see we need a centre half and a keeper and will bust a gut to get one before the season starts.

Was Allsop to blame for any of their goals tonight?

I don't think he made a save?
The player went around him easily for the Benjamin goal, the disallowed goal was straight at him and he just flapped his arms out of the way.
I'm probably being harsh, but I don't rate him at all, and feel it's our number one priority for a new signing, along with a quality centre half. My opinion on Alsopp is more over the whole season than tonight's performance.
To clarify, Benjamin, Adams and the defence as a whole were terrible and more to blame for the goals TONIGHT than Alsopp.
A quality keeper like Marshall calms the defence and takes responsibility and pressure off them, I don't think Alsopp gives them any confidence.

I don’t get how Allsopp who was one of Derbys better players has been a disappointment for us.

Re: FT: FC PORTO 4 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Ugbo is no Kaba either, who would have got a goal tonight.
Hopefully, Ugbo will get fitter and better.
I'd rather see Grant up top, with O'Dowda left wing, but we need a leftback if Collins can't find some form.

Rather than a Kaba I’d rather a defender who can play with his back to goal and bring others into play. With Meite, Grant, Robinson, Ramsey around the focal striker he needs to bring them into play, I don’t think Kaba can.
I’m thinking Helguson getting us promoted with minimal goals but a way of playing.

Good point about Helgueson he was brilliant and so underrated by many
I think Ramsey will be doing similar to the Hulgueson role this year setting players up, we'll need Strikers to be making the runs and finishing the chances.

Re: FT: FC PORTO 4 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Keep forgetting Helguson played for us.
8 goals in 38 would be a decent contribution to current team

Certainly, we don't have the right players still for that to be a fluid option. As much as I'd love us to be able play that way I did feel a relief when Lamouchi came in and made us more direct.

Re: FT: FC PORTO 4 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
McGuiness was poor tonight and it was his mistake for the first goal. Hopefully he'll get better as we get into the season. Adams was at fault for the second goal and was only ok apart from that.
Grant looks like if he can get more games under his belt he will be dangerous. Ugbo on this performance is nothing special.
Collins looked class as soon as he came on and Ramsey was different class altogether.
Alsopp gets everyone into a state of panic. He needs to be replaced PDQ!

I agree, he was our most dangerous forward in the first half.
