However, I thought Alfie Doughty was one of the best players on the pitch yesterday and yet I can’t remember thinking that about him when he was playing for us. That makes me think a couple of things. First, Luton probably have better coaches than we did last season and, second, that the Championship is jam packed full of players of roughly equal standard, so things like momentum, good team spirit and a clear way of playing that everyone understands can take you an awful long way in this league.
Luton are also very good in both boxes. Morris has 20 and Adebayo has 10, and Lockyer has 5. Remember when we were good at set pieces? They've got a much better manager (and have had 2 of them) than anything we've had, and have an outstanding centre forward at this level playing alongside a very good one. Both sides yesterday have two of the best strikers in the division and that makes a huge difference.

Morris was playing for the side that finished bottom of the table last season though. I only point that out to try and show that the Championship has been a very competitive league where teams and players are much of a muchness for a good few years now. To my mind, there are less teams playing football “the right way” and the football is more pragmatic with what sides do without the ball almost being more important than what they do with it. Luton are a typical modern day Championship side - they were a lot better than us down here and the better team up there and have a few good players for this level (I’d rate Morris one of the better strikers at this level and Adebayor never gives you a moment’s peace), but I don’t think they’d have got in the top six five years ago.

Barnsley fans all said Morris was great. Barnsley's team last year was absolutely dire too. We should have gone in for him in the summer but oh well.
There's a lot of difference between both sides and us though. They've got more legs, pace and talent. The division isn't great but we're a long way too from being a good side. It is hard to play the "right way". It is easy to keep the ball a la Morison but to do something with it is bloody difficult, if it wasn't, everyone would. We should focus on being hard to beat with a goal threat. Basically, get Jones in, and ask him how Luton do it and copy them! :hehe:
With our budget, and playing squad, the right way for us should be the one that gets us to 50 points asap.

I liked Doughty for us, very direct and popped up with the odd goal. Him and Dramah would have started for us easily this season. Injuries didn’t help him though. Didn’t realise he was only 23.

He scored once in 9 appearances.

Well done.
Doughty scored twice this season. So I guess he popped up with the even goal.
