Why is Rodri still on the pitch?

A question the ITV commentators threatened to answer, but then dodged.
I struggle to understand the laws where there is a foul in the box and a penalty.
A red card can be given as well as the penalty - depending on the severity of the foul - but my understanding (which may be wrong) is that the referee can deem the penalty to be punishment enough and settle for a yellow for the foul.
Rodri did foul, but it was a slight touch.
If he had fouled just outside the box with only the keeper to beat he would probably have got a red for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

I've always admired the Italian coaches, they have consistent technical quality throughout the divisions.

Had to check the group. We were 4 points adrift of Italy in the end. The group started with Yugoslavia taking part and changing to Serbia and Montenegro. There was some infighting with the players from what I remember, resulting in them picking up only 1 point from 2 games against Azerbaijan.
Italy only drew at home to Yugoslavia, so after we'd won our opening 4 games we could have lost in Italy and qualified with 3 wins. As it was, 2 would have been enough. Unfortunately for us, all of S&M's main players decided to return and they did the double over us, while we also failed to beat Finland at home, winning 1 point from the last 4 matches. That Finland game Finnished us off. We would have been a point clear of Italy with a last home game over S&M to come, but ended up needing Azerbaijan to get a result in Italy, which they didn't manage. Alternatively, had Serbia & Montenegro not had their problems and beaten Azerbaijan twice, they'd have won the group in the end.

The same reason as Albania not getting that corner they deserved, it doesn't suit the narrative.

I think there's an argument as to whether it was a penalty in the first place, but as one had been given, it has ro be a red card surely?

Re: EURO'S thread. Sunday 16th June 2024.
Regarding the Rodri foul, my understanding was that it was changed a few years ago and unless it’s deliberate denial of a goal scoring opportunity in the box there’s no double jeopardy. It is a yellow as the awarding of the penalty is deemed enough of a sanction. No idea if that’s actually the case at the Euros but that’s what I thought was now the FIFA law.
Outside of the box it’s a red no matter what (see the incident in the PSG Barca game in which Barca would have rather a penalty because it only would have been yellow).
Given that he probably didn’t touch him, I think if that’s the case it’s the right decision. If it wasn’t for the fact it was a totally open goal and made absolutely no sense you’d call it a dive and say Croatia were lucky to even get the pen and not end up with a yellow themselves.

Re: EURO'S thread. Sunday 16th June 2024.
I actually thought the decision was going to be overturned. The whole episode seemed to sum up croatia pretty well, more interested in cheating and breaking up the game than actually scoring a goal.
Spain looked bloody good mind. Sat back 2nd half, but they had the game in the bag by half time.

Re: EURO'S thread. Sunday 16th June 2024.
I'm predicting a 2-2 draw for England tonight against Serbia and an easy win against Slovenia, which will be probably be enough for them to get out of their group.

Re: EURO'S thread. Sunday 16th June 2024.
Good game between Netherlands and Poland. Netherlands the better side, but not by much. Poland look a lot more open and attacking than they have in previous tournaments.
Strangely, it looked like one of the polish substitutes managed to hurt himself while remonstrating with the ref from the sidelines. Hopefully for him it's not a bad one

Yes, another good game. Poland look a stronger side than they did against us in the PO, even without Lewandowski.

Just what I was thinking, maybe they’ve been freed up in a way because everything doesn’t have to go through Lewandowski?

Enjoying Slovenia v Denmark. 1-1 and Slovenia hit the post with a thunderous strike too

Bad news, he's pulled a tongue muscle and can't talk for two weeks.

His missus is fuming !
Seemed to be his knee that went. One second he's jumping up shouting, the next he's clutching his knee

Worried for a sec as there's a CCFC flag in the crowd. Thankfully it says Sky Blues underneath.
