Only caught the 2nd half. Enjoyed it. End to end. Great comeback from the lads.

Vaulks grew back into the game well whereas Ojo started to look really tired. The less said about Nelson and Bennett (definitely need a rest) the better.
Glatzel's penalty wasn't fantastic but would be good enough to score against any keeper not named Etheridge and he was unlucky not to have a second goal tonight too - I told you he had nice link up play with Harris! As for the cameos, think Whyte did well in first half but faded, Harris did a lot of intelligent running and showed good touches outside of the box but probably could have got a goal is he had shown a bit more anticipation.
How do you pick a team for Saturday though? Presumably much the same starting 11 but Ojo, Bennett, Nelson all looking like they need a rest so starts for Evans, Cunningham and Benkovic?

Some of this is schoolboy stuff.
Stick that in your pipe. Wilson - a great goal and two assists but apparently he isn't very good and shouldn't be here. Now go and slope off and hide like you usually do, no doubt waiting for the next defeat, so you can have another go at the team/manager.

I think the only change will Ralls for Vaulks.
Id make more though.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
Harris made a difference when he came on.
Wilson turned up as I said he would need to.
Pack MOM for just that one pass
P
Defence needs sorting. Either play extra man at back or replace Nelson and Bennett who both badly need a break.
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
No one has a better record than us over the latest 6 games. Judging by earlier reactions some people would have been happier with 1 win in 6 if we’d beaten the Jacks

We're a 4-4-2 team. The problem is that we've only got two fit strikers.

Why wouldn’t you give the penalty in that situation, to a brilliant dead ball kicker like Wilson.
It was struck hard into the bottom corner.
Credit should go to keeper, there was little wrong with the penalty

Not sure to what to make of us we look national league level for large periods of some matches but 15 points put of 18 is pretty remarkable really - dumbfounded.

Also - I hope Pack has gained some muscle memory from that forward pass.

I think that's fair. Our experienced players and a bit of flair and dead ball quality from Wilson dragged us through. Ojo was our best player in the shambles against the Jacks but he looked poor today. Bennett and Nelson looked shot. I think Cunningham will come in for Bennett but can't see Benkovic being chucked in the deep end against Norwich. Ralls will be back in a tight 3 with Pack and Vaulks
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
Wilson MOTM.
Ojo looks spent. Here's hoping Hoilett is fit for Saturday.

Nah. It wasnt a terrible penalty. But it wasnt good either. No missed penalty saved or missed is a good one. 12 yards if you dont score youve done something wrong.
I dont blame anyone for a missed pen though unless they try to be clever.

The only thing would be that Etheridge would have faced lots of Glatzel's pens in training but not Wilson

Missing Tutu, Moore, Tomlin, Ralls, Hoilett, Murphy, Vassell...wonder how many would have started tonight :sherlock:

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
The marking on Morrison for our winner was unbelievably bad.
He hasn't been great with his head the last couple of seasons (even though he's got 2 in 3) but as bad as we were defending their two goals, that was just suicide.
Our defence really needs looking at, our defensive set as a whole to be fair, otherwise Norwich will murder us.
We dodged a bullet tonight.
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
I wanted to add that the sooner Whyte is shipped out the better. Not up to this level. Hope Hoilett is back Saturday.

Scored for Wrexham last night, didn't he?
Wilson was MotM and should be commended on being willing to run back to get a block in our own box and score a fantastic goal in the same game.
Gavin Whyte is with us until end of 2023 season so a long way to go with him yet. That first 20 minutes was the best we've seen of him though so hopefully Harris is building his confidence up and we'll see it more and more.

True. The Jacks would definitely take 1 from 6 if it was us they beat.

We've got to sort out this possession problem though. 55% is almost criminal! Can we please get back to 39% asap.
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY. Match thread
If we're going to play Gavin Whyte, it should be in the same role as Mark Harris. He doesn't contribute anything playing on the wing.

That was one hell of a "back pass"! Get what you mean about backwards/sideways passes. Makes a change to see a decisive forward pass like that. More please Marlon.
3 points. Onwards and upwards.

I'm sure that when an irregular contributor gets his way and Pack, Packs his Bags, then normal service will be resumed.

We might as well play a kid. Whyte does nothing, he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

I couldn't believe those comments myself and find it impossible to understand that way of thinking. It was even pointed out that by swapping our previous 4 wins for a win over the Jacks it could make the difference between staying up or relegation. But for some it mattered more that we beat our local rivals. Sheer lunacy !!

3 points. Onwards and upwards.
It also depends on the movement up ahead. We're usually quite static.

Especially crossing to Glatzel who’s less of a centre forward

Watching that through ball again and if you look closely even though it goes forwards - Pack actually passes it sideways - if we can get him to face the sidelines and run sideways for the whole match then we might have a player. Like a crab. That's good at football.
