Weve got Ashford, Conte and Giles, who all look capable of stepping up, weve got Ramsey and ODowda who both played very little last year and will both make a big difference if they stay fit plus theres Eli King and Isaak Davies returning from successful loan spells. We still look light up front (unless Kanga does the business or Robinson carries on his pre season form) but lets be honest, our main problem in the last few years hasnt been our strikers missing chances, its that weve created sweet FA.
Defence looks solid plus Horvath was excellent after we signed him. Also the divisions a lot weaker than last year. I reckon we're going to finish between 6 and 10.
Good post I am of the same P. M. A.

I really don't get that. I admit that I don't pay that much attention to other clubs, but I can't see how we're not a mid-table team.

Re: The bookies have us finishing 20th ?
I was struck by how much the Second Tier podcast's season prediction of an eighteenth place finish for us was put down to the fact that we were owned by Vincent Tan. I said on here that I couldn't argue too much with that viewpoint when it comes to our owner because I believe that, over the past fourteen years, his overall effect on the club has been negative, but what cannot be denied, is that we've been promoted twice to the top flight under his ownership and no other owner in my City supporting life has been able to do it once.
I've seen one prediction of a tenth placed finish for us in numerous podcasts I've watched streamed by non City fans. That was well above anything else I've seen as we've generally been rated around the 17th to 20th mark. I've also read a piece saying that we've had one of the more striking transfer windows in the Championship so far - I've not seen anything else using g such dramatic language, but there's generally a feeling that we've done pretty well in the window up to now, yet this is never reflected in the finishing position predicted for us, bar that one outlier that has us finishing tenth.
So, if it seems to be accepted that we've done okay this summer, why is it not being reflected in where we're predicted to finish - as it stands, there seems to be a feeling that we've improved our squad, but are expected to drop by somethiung like half a dozen places in a division which is held to be weaker than last season by many? I agree that this can partly be explained by our finishing position being prett freakish last season - so many of the end of season stats point to a side that should be in the bottom six rather than the top dozen.
However, does the Second Tier's verdict reflect how we're perceived by football fans outside of a corner of south Wales? I think it probably does - we've been a shambles of a club for years and this stems from the man in charge, but I think this time ther pundits from outside of south Wales have got us a bit wrong, I believe that if, say, Preston has the 23/24 that we did and then signed the exact same players we have, then the verdict would be that they were headed for a top ten finish and maybe better than that - we need more goalscoring potential in the form of the sort of striker we were told to expect during this window if we are to make a genuine top six challenge in my opinion, but I think that one person who had us finishing tenth may be closer to the truth than all of the others.

Re: The bookies have us finishing 20th ?
Some of my favourite phrases of the last twenty years
If Barnsley hadn’t beaten all those Premier League teams we would never have got to the Cup final
If Jones had played Rambo we would have won the Cup
If the Championship wasn’t so weak we would’ve never won the League and got promoted
If we’d played Warnock’s way in the first half of the season we’d never have got promoted to the Prem for a second time
If we didn’t have Tan as owner the bookies wouldn’t have us a possible relegation candidates and several/some/many supporters would be a lot happier
Let’s hope the bookies have missed some vital evidence again this season.

I'll be there. I'm just hoping for a significant improvement in terms of the playing style and tactics. Last season was tedious beyond belief. Some of the new signings have been encouraging in that respect, so I'm hoping the manager abandons his boring defensive nonsense, changes the formation and tries to take opponents on from the first whistle as opposed to in the last ten minutes.
Loads of imponderables with the current squad. Should be interesting, or at least more interesting than last season.

Based on last week at Bristol we will play out from the back a lot. I hope though that we get the ball through midfield to attack quicker, and with better effect than last year.

Playing out from the back is fine by me but, like you say, we have to get the ball into advanced positions a whole lot quicker and more effectively, and the passing needs to be crisper too. I couldn't stand another season of a bunch of defenders and defensive midfielders passing the ball about slowly among themselves before eventually punting it up field to nobody in particular.

Hopefully we've improved the players and they will be more capable of the movement required and have the ability to move the ball quicker, but also if the numbers are right take a few long kicks and mix it up. Have you heard Bellamy talking about this, very interesting.

I will have a bit of that .
Spent last night trying to get my sky bet account re opened to take the 15/2 and 2/1 offered on us for top half and top 6 finish .
The eternal optimist perhaps , I tend to win more bets than I lose though.

Skybet really don't rate us.
Updated - promotion 25-1
Top 6 - 9-1
Top half 9-4.
Still 80s to win it and 3s for relegation with only Plymouth and Oxford also joining us in the relegation places.

Grab the last two while you still can!!!
I would if I gambled, top half easy!

Re: The bookies have us finishing 20th ?
Nobody I’ve read or seen so far is rating us. The Guardian season preview has us as a relegation candidates along with Oxford and Portsmouth.
The not the top 20 podcast has us finishing 18th and said Bulut’s team always have a very poor 2nd season under his management and I’ve seen another site saying our signings ( before Robertson so referring to Willock Chambers and El Ghazi ) are players on a downward trajectory on their careers and that we have a lot of players who cannot be relied upon to stay fit for a season
So not much enthusiasm for our chances out there but I’m hoping there is a lot of underestimating going on
Please let the football be better than the turgid play we had to put up with for most of last season , we’ve got to move the ball quicker this season

I have had a couple of bets with sky bet . They must know something I dont . Other than Oxford and Portsmouth they think we are worse than Shef Wednesday , qpr , millwall , in fact worse than everyone else in the league.
80-1 to win the league (unlikely ) 13-1 each way top 4
9-1 top 6 (possible)
9/4 top half (good bet)
Unless they something I dont , those odds are crazy , after spending hours getting my account reopened, they are nosy ****ers I have had interest in top two and a few quid on top half .
The odds they are offering would be what i would expect to see after 10 games and we had 3 points....
For what its worth I reckon Burnley will struggle without Kompany and Bellamy
Luton have had their day in the sun , will also struggle.
Leeds at 5/2 for the league look a fair bet .

3/1 with SkyBet to finish above Bristol City, Swansea and Plymouth.
Surprised you haven't got stuck into that, Jimmy.

Surely you meant top six, JJ?
Top two is pushing it even for our most optimistic fans...

Re: The bookies have us finishing 20th ?
In the handicap system on Sky bet they have Cardiff to win the league at 18/1 with + 31 handicap so that means if we get around 60 points again we’ll be in to the 90 point mark - that’s got to be worth a few pounds

That seems an incredible bet.
Interesting perspectives as all city fans seem to think top half pretty much guaranteed and wont be far off top 6. Everyone seems confident bulut has made some brilliant signings.
However remember the enthusiasm after we beat norwich in morison first game of the new season? Best transfer window ever etc..... as it turned out only 2 teams had less points than us. :hehe:

50/1 to be promoted by any means. Not saying this is fair value but say there is a circumstance where Manchester City are relegated for their 115 infringes of PPF. Would that open another promotion spot with three going up automatically with top 7 being good enough for a playoff place?

Over the last 30 seasons in the second tier the average number of points won by the champions has been 94. 7 times out of 30 has the champions won fewer than 90 points. Since we won the Championship with 87 points (only West Brom won the league with fewer since 1996/97) only two sides have won fewer than 93 points and 3 of the last 4 champions have amassed 97 points or more.
I suspect the bookies are looking again at the Championship champions running away with the division. If the winners get 97 points again, we'd need 67. They obviously don't think there's much chance of that happening.

To be fair to Mozzer he was sort of correct when he said we would see the type of football these shores haven’t seen before.
