I was at some of those parties, and the ones in Roath (Oakfield Street student house) absolute carnage! :hehe:
I know Daf Fortt, chill bloke, he was original City Surf crew, he'd remember me.
:hide:
Interesting reading this as I used to spend quite a bit of time in City Surf as a grom. Even today, the smell of surf wax brings back those memories. Daf is the only name I recognise as my brother was good friends with Daf's brother Will who surfed. I thought the owner of City Surf was a guy called Jono from Langland?

Cardiff / Swansea / Newport hooligans / ex hooligans still arguing about what happened in rows when they were teenagers / young adults. Even worse some of these people are still involved. Grow up ffs. They wouldnt live two seconds with proper hard men like John Smith.
No idea who John Smith is but I don't disagree with any of this but I don't think anyone's really doing that in this thread are they? They're just answering the question that was asked. I can't think of anybody on this board who gives it the big one when it comes to being a hoolie

He was, not that he knew half the stuff that went on, particularly in the early days:biggrin: he let Evo and huw manage the shop and that’s where there issues began, usually with a few pints late pm in Dempseys….both unfortunately developed big issues with the white stuff a bit late on and not really recovered. Hope your brother is doing ok…

I don’t think they post on here, as many have said sometimes these situations just presented themselves back in those days, you could easily get arrested wrongfully just for being outside the wrong pub, tube station, street etc…just as TLG did a few times and I’d hardly call him a hooligan:hehe:

I'm picturing TLG sarcastically correcting a policeman on some obscure section of the law and being arrested to shut him up.

the unforgettable smell of 'Mr Zogs Sex Wax' (other surfboard waxes are available) on a Saturday morning.
:hehe:
yeah Jono was the owner but he liked to spend his time surfing, he was rarely in the shop, at one point he employed a mate of his Mark Winrow (sp?) to try and keep order, Huw and Daf weren't business minded to say the least, great laugh hanging out in there back then.

Re: Who on here has been nicked watching Cardiff?
I wasn't involved, but remember the game well. I have never known a game where fighting on the terraces had such an impact on the game..The players and ref were scared stiff. As was I, made a long detour home, looking over my shoulder all thectime.

I recall Tim, who really didn’t fit in at all, was the sort of underboss for years controlling them all….cant recall a mark? There was quite a few over the years. One guy from swansea, can’t recall his name was a right nutter, starting selling weed in the shop….:hehe:

Was/ is John Smith a bare knuckle fighter strongly backed by the travelling community
I heard he was doing time but I don’t recall when I was told that.
Another properly hard bloke went by the name of Clifford John iirc. I remember watching him fight a rather large Bristol chap outside the railway station. It was a sight to behold

Re: Who on here has been nicked watching Cardiff?
Never been nicked but:
1 Paid the fine of someone who was nicked at Swansea away on New Years Day 1980. I bet him to shag a plastic swan in front of the North Bank......and he did.
2 Was on BBC Wales news prior to the home fixture in 1980. Coverage of trouble before and me apparently being pulled by the plod. I was pissed and don't remember much but he just roughed me up, gave me a mouthful and let me go. Lot's of denials in the following days to friends, family and work mates (and bosses) who swore they saw me on the box.

And FTR the John Actie podcast one was decent. The podcast has gone downhill since his early days and especially since he got An-arse involved.
It’s not meant to be bragging of how hard you were.
Everyone knows those days have gone.
My journey becoming a Cardiff Fan from Newport landed me in a load of trouble in the 90’s.
Thankfully lots of ex headers from Cardiff and Newport become mates.
I was in Benidorm last year on a stag do, turns out that a bunch of lads from Corporation Rd in Newport were there and everyone knew everyone.
I knew loads of them who gave me good natured stick.
One lad who was there though who genuinely is or should I say was scary as **** to me, as I knew his reputation…saw a Bluebird Tattoo on my forearm and was great about it.
As a lot of people have said, different times.

True "Swansea, down by the sea" or similar shit.

The irony hasn’t been lost on me. Our fellow poster Henry accusing fellow posters of acting like wannabe hard men, whilst he’s chosen a user name of a famous American mobster 😁

Mark was some crazy mulleted surfer mate of Jono's with a Freddie Mercury moustache, brown mousy hair, square shoulders, a grimace rather than a grin, maybe 6ft tall, always (and I mean always) wore a dark green cable knit wool sweater and tight jeans, he looked like something from the Blue Oyster Club, that oddball was there for a while but spent his time upstairs mainly, Daf will remember him i'm sure..

ratted out Pauly Vario and Jimmy the gent, he also helped with over 50 other convictions, he joined the witness protection program and continued on his junkie lifestyle, got kicked off it after being caught with Meth, continued with his junkie lifestyle some more, opened a restaurant and sold his famous pasta sauce, then went back to his junkie lifestyle
died about 10 years ago
I love " goodfella's ", top film, I once went down a rabbit hole of researching Henry Hill and his mob friends and truly fascinating story, or focus it isnt for everyone, but they were different times back then
