We will need a full coaching staff as well though.
Presumably Luton will start the season as bookies favourites with the parachute money they'll still be getting, but after them we've got to be in the next bunch of teams along with Plymouth, Bolton, Reading and the teams from the playoffs.
But in terms of the size of the club, you know you can get 33k bums on seats in the top flight. You have got Salech, or at least a lot of transfer budget to work with if he goes. Luton are just as crap as we are, if not worse.

Oh, I'm not planning to go to matches or give the club any money. But if they do that, then I'm divorcing myself entirely from them for the time being. Didn't say I wouldn't watch them on the Firestick or something. A good manager would be a temporary reprieve from this ownership.

Ian Evatt now the bookies favourite.

Wikipedia says "Evatt prefers to play attacking possession-based football, with his Barrow team nicknamed "Barrowcelona" due to the attacking football they played... Evatt frequently decides against naming a substitute goalkeeper on the bench, preferring to have more attacking options and has had outfield players do goalkeeping training, just in case. Evatt will sometimes bring on attacking players when winning matches rather than defensive players, preferring to score more goals than defend a lead."

How many football fans give rave reviews for any former manager of theirs who eventually got the sack? I'd say the percentage is tiny.

Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
Issue seems to be he was very stubborn with how his teams set up (can’t be worse than Bulut tho).
Most seem to think he did well but should have been replaced much earlier.
-
Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
2-1 fav out of work
Buckingham 4-1 out of work.
Of course the bookies could be totally wrong but if the short list includes these 2 did we really need to hire from outside to get these sort of candidates.
Hopefully there is someone else outside the bookies radar and they will come up with a good appointment.
Michael Beale has drifted to 16-1 thankfully.

They weren’t giving him rave reviews when he was at Bolton, or they weren’t at least last season at least.

Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
I have very good friends who are Bolton fans, they say the football under him was terrible, very dull , defensive based - fit right in with what we’ve had to put up with under Bulut!
-
Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
He also fell out with the fans big time
-
Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
All rumour’s anyway, it will be somebody we haven’t heard of before!
-
Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
Evatt is...OK I guess? I don't hate it, but I feel we could do a little better, I'm more inclined towards a few other choices. He seems more like a good choice for a Stevenage, a side who want to be stable in League One rather than gunning for promotion.
As long as it's not Beale, Gerrard or Rooney that's the first hurdle to clear. But Selles or Buckingham would be fine.
-
Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
You would hope he would learn from how it ended at Bolton. It seems he did well there initially.
To find someone with no negative reviews we would need to get someone in at the very beginning of their career, that hasn't worked well for us so far.
During his time there he got a promotion from league 2, play off semi defeat in league 1, play off final defeat in league 1, winners of the pizza trophy. Still only 43, I'm not saying we should be going for him but even at that age he's ridiculously more experienced than some of our recent managers.

I love doing that on FIFA where goalkeepers never get injured, but that's gimmicky as hell in a real game.

Yeah, probably someone not mentioned anywhere.
Don't think Bulut's name had been mentioned at all had it? Vitor Campelos was favourite at that point I think.
(I remembered if was someone Portuguese but had to Google it. According to Google's AI overview "Erol Bulut was the most recent Portuguese manager of Cardiff City." 🤦*♂️)

they didn't get any better unter Stephen Schumacher either from the look of things.

Re: New Manager recruitment process in place
Buckingham probably suits the profile as a young Warnock the best (team rebuilder that sees promotion), and Evatt does to a lesser extent. But Selles performed wonders at Reading, and that's indication he can work well under immense difficulty. For all of Tan's faults, he's not Dai Yongge bad, so I think it would be an easier job for Selles.
Remember Hull put themselves in the position they were in by massively overspending in the previous season that had a strong Leicester, Leeds and Southampton relegated from the Prem prior, whereas Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest stayed up. It's not Selles fault they barely stayed up, hell, I'd argue he was a big part in why they did, so I rate Selles highly and think he'd be the best choice.
I'm on the Selles train personally, feel he fits the profile of what we need. Buckingham would be better if we had more competent ownership, but we don't.

Ian Evatt being linked now
was heavily linked when Bulut got the boot too

It's Ian, will be announced soon to boost season ticket sales

Evatt into evens. Hopefully it's a flutter of bets due to in the know rumours.🤣

It won't excite the fans particularly but with this club, just getting in a semi competent manager might convince the odd person to renew.

Probably.
I'd be genuinely very shocked if we hired someone already.

Its ianevattable that he'll be a flop here.

Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
Nearly a 50% win rate in over 250 games mostly at the L1 level, plus a promotion on his record. Think we could do a lot worse.

We could absolutely do a lot worse, but I think we could do a little better. I'll settle for him though and I'd back him if we made that decision.

They were actually worse under Schumacher.
I wonder if the negative reviews from Bolton fans is a case of familiarity breeding contempt, because the stats suggest scoring goals has never been a problem with his sides - even last year (when they scored 39 goals in his 26 games).
-
Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Gerrard currently 10/11 to be rangers manager.
As an asside Southgate is 33/1 to be our manager.. Better to put the footballs coming home (fcuked it up) song to bed

I think you may be right about Evatt "losing" the Bolton supporters because he'd been there so long - I'd also say that expectations had become very high at that club because of the job Evatt had done there.
I wasn't that enthusiastic about Evatt when I first heard about him being a possibility, but I'm still thinking in Championship terms - Evatt wouldn't be a bad appointment for a League One club.

A bit like Dave Jones?
I used to get hammered for supporting Dave Jones now a lot people talk about it like the good old days

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
According to WOL Tan "has now steered away from a desire to appoint young, and proven managers... It seems there is now a necessary criteria of previous managerial experience, preferably in English football, and ideally a promotion on the CV."
They reckon there are about 10 names on the shortlist now.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Given where we are he wouldn't be a bad appointment. If we'd stayed up then I wouldn't be as happy.
I thought the committee/agency etc were deciding a short-list of 6 not 10 to be interviewed. 10's too many.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Apparently interviews will be taking place this Thursday .Ramsey has been interviewed already for the vacant Managers role
I guess 2'nd stage interviews will be next week before they decide
