Am I right in thinking that a big win against Liechtenstein (7-0) and we only need to draw against North Macedonia?
(It's unlikely, obviously.)

According to the commentary, Bellamy was going to select a 19 year-old who is playing in League One if he hadnÂ’t got injured in training. And thatÂ’s to play against the likes of De Bruyne, Doku and Trossard. That should put things in perspective.
Rodon, Ampadu and Neko Williams are PL regulars. Ben Davies is vastly experienced at PL. So it's not like they are lower League level. We seem so easy to play against. So easy to open up.

Nah Ashley. Ben Davies didn't do really well v Doku.😂

I'd even prefer Isaac Davies up there instead of Mr Bang Average Harris. Davies at least has the speed to take on defenders and with a good eye for goal too. Also Darlow! He's no bloody good. He should stick to running an estate agents.
I agree. BJ has scored 26 Premier League goals in 113 appearances whereas MH has scored 15 Championship goals in 138 appearances. BJ scored 16 Championship goals in 59 appearances. He is a proven goalscorer at the highest level - 6 international goals, whereas MH is an unproven goalscorer even at a lower level.
It just doesn’t make sense.

The first pen was unlucky. The following three goals were dreadful ones to concede.
The squad isn't great but we have as many PL players now as we have ever had.
It's the manner of the goals we are losing that grates.

I dont think so, at this level players must be at it 100% switched on every single minute, Bellamy chose to take Brooks off and left James on, neither did that much, James the lost the ball for their 2nd goal and went for the ball in the penalty area, Macedonia didn't concede the other day and we shipped 4 at home, the pedestrian back 4 passing with our midfield static standing next to their players offering no out ball, Ben Davies cantering over to Docku giving him time to have a pie and a pint before passing it, Thomas at the end admiring Trossard and watching him slide it home it's just not good enough if we were to be serious contenders to win the game, the ref never did us any favours but IMO we contributed more to our defeat than the ref, both were pens under the modern game so no complaints there. Docku is a marvelous player and offers a serious threat but him aside i dont think this is a great Belgium side De-Bryne isn't what he was, but he's always looking at breaking into the box like he was continually doing tonight, it was if we had never seen him do this before, I thought we were just poor from manager through the players, our 2nd goal was nice however. it seems we are getting poorer under Bellamy or the better opposition is finding it easier to expose us knowing we will just pass it square, back, square back and sideways at a lethargic pace.

Re: FT: WALES 2 - 4 BELGIUM. Match thread
All the summarisers are worse than the players. It's not an achievement to have Belgium sit and counter when you ship 4 and could easily have conceded a few more.

Rodon and Ampadu were playing in the Championship earlier this year. Their side currently sits 15th in the Premier League. Williams’ side is currently 17th. Cabango is a Championship player. Meanwhile, veteran Davies hasn’t played a single minute for Spurs this season in any competition.
That’s not a strong defence by any stretch of the imagination.

By historical standards that's not bad. Our most successful side that reached the semi finals of the Euros had a Championship full back in Chris Gunter and James Chester who rarely started for West Brom! They were both starters in that Welsh side as was Wayne Hennessey who wasn't getting much game time either.

Yes I think that's fair but I think we need to be more pragmatic against the better sides.

Probably, and Bellamy wont deviate from the way he sets out to play, he doesn't seem to react to scorelines or passages pf play. It will either make him or break him.

Chester was an outstanding Championship centre back, and he walks into our side. Hennnessey played 29, 29 and 27 PL games in the 3 seasons either side of Euro 2016.
We are also crazy open, they don't get any help from the wingers. We are easy to play against, and we're punchless going forwards. It's the weakest group of players we've had for well over a decade.

It's going to break him then, it's one thing to play like that in Nations League that are glorified friendlies and get some moral victories when we play bigger teams close, quite another to play like that in games that matter.
Just like his mentor Kompany at Burnley, playing that way when you don't have the players to do it is suicide. Maybe if he lucks into the Bayern job next he'll look like a tactical genius too.

Yup, put those teams next to each other and you'd say maybe Neco Williams and Harry Wilson are anywhere close to starting for the 2016 team? The spine of the team is so much stronger in 2016 it's not even funny. Even if you somehow forget about a prime Bale and Ramsey who when fit were both world class players.
-
Re: FT: WALES 2 - 4 BELGIUM. Match thread
The group will pan out as expected. We could have predicted this a year ago. We haven’t the talent now to beat a team like Belgium but it’s taken 3 penalties to defeat us in those games.
We need a kind draw in the play offs to even have a sniff.

Williams certainly starts ahead of Gunter or Taylor.
I reckon Moore at his best would have started up top, could possibly make a case for Ampadu & Rodon too. Maybe even Connor Roberts over Gunter but that would be controversial
Wilson wouldn't get anywhere near starting as his competition would be Bale & Ramsey.

Remember when Bellamy said the performance in his first game, Turkey, was as bad as things would get? The truth is that we’re a worse team now than we were then. Furthermore, our defending has gone to pot. It’s all very well saying Bellamy wants to take these big teams on, but our forward players are not good or consistent enough to give such an approach a chance of succeeding with a defence as disorganised as ours is. We concede so many early goals against sides like Belgium and England that the game is over before it’s begun - we’re far too easy to play against.

Looking at the teams we might play I don’t have much hope with this team…..

If he thinks that Harris up front is the best option, he’s never going to make it as a good coach
Ben Davies getting turned inside out, Cabango poor, and Ampadu non existent in midfield
Meanwhile we watched as Moore spent around the best part of the second half running up and down the line waiting to come on???
Half time was the time for changes
While I’m on one, does every village in North Wales send its Man Utd supporting idiot down the big city for these games?
I think we had the worst one sat near us, what a muppet

Hes getting more David Brent with every interview.
I think he must have gone to the same media training as Anthony Joshua.

Walesonline ratings. Largely fair. Thomas given 7 and star man is bonkers. Awful back pass , not back tracking deserved a 5. DaSilva all he did was be hopeless for the 4th should have been a n/a or 1 or 2
James lucky to get 5 as well.
-
Re: FT: WALES 2 - 4 BELGIUM. Match thread
I think he likes Mark Harris because hes busy and is a nuisance for defenders, runs the channels, will win you some corners.etc but ultimately, his statistics show there is no end product there. None whatsoever. Never has been.
I think its a sorry state for Welsh football when you consider some of the great forward players in the last 40-50 years that Mark Harris is deemed number 1 selection for the national team.

Thomas had a good first half but a dreadful second period. Rodon our best player imo. No way was Brooks worth a 6. He created nothing and moves often broke down with him.

Re: FT: WALES 2 - 4 BELGIUM. Match thread
To concede one penalty for ball to hand is a VAR disgrace, to deliberately handball for a second is careless.
I thought it was a good performance for the majority of the game. Doku was playing a different game to everyone else ,but for the first 20 mins I thought playing Harris was a good move, Johnson wouldn't have put in anywhere near the same effort and Moore forces a very different style of play. Belgium were caught cold with the pace and passing and it's a shame that a poor referee decision let them catch their breath.
Until the second penalty killed it I also fancied Wales to equalise (and probably be down again within a minute). Put me down as a hopeless optimist.

I suppose a lot depends on the definitions of a coach and a manager. Good coaches often don't make good managers.
While I'm on one, I wasn't at the game but the crowd and atmosphere came across as very underwhelming. After we scored, we should have been singing and dancing but all that came across was fear, tension and anticipation of the inevitable.

Ampadu did well considering he was left totally exposed by Wilson & James for much of the game

Harris is a poor footballer, he does have end product, but it's at league 1 level. That should tell us all we need to know about that division.
