Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Should make for a good second half with Spain leading. France, unlike their run to the semi, have to go for it.

I predict the first substitute for Spain will be Williams off

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
Dreadful defending by Spain then
Not their usual calm as a cucumber

When all else fails, bring on the BIG MAN

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
i can't get into it, tho there was intensity i thought the match was shite

Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
France rubbish in the final third as they have been all tournament. Might as well bring things to a close now pre-season's here.
-
Re: EUROS thread. The semi finals
I hope England/Netherlands stuff Spain. Can't stand the way they act after any minimal contact

Holland in the 70s were certainly the most entertaining .
Cruyff was the big name up front,Rudi Krol in defence...
then 15 minutes later you'd see Cruyff defending, Krol leading the line.
Commentators at the time could never work out the formation. Best way to describe it was "rolling".
How they didn't win the WC will always be a mystery.

I thought he was excellent, incredible pace. Hardly boring Tony, perhaps not quite hitting the heights of the first half.
I had a little wager on Spain as they went one one... always keeps it interesting.

No mystery, Argentina cheating is the reason

That's where the phrase Total Football comes from, players being able to adapt wherever they are on the pitch. That Dutch side wouldn't have pushed two central defenders up top for a set piece and then expected them to sprint back when the phase of play was over (like we see in this country) they'd have stayed up front and returned to their positions gradually.

True for 78, but they seemed to switch off after going one up vs West Germany in 74.
Home nation won on both occasions. Hmmm...

There’s no finished product with Williams. No shot, decent cross, just pace

I think you'll find that they are all at it, not just the Spanish.
Gone are the days when you got clattered and jumped straight back up so as not to show the opposition you were hurt.
Part of the game unfortunately gaining an advantage any way possible and it seems to be accepted by everyone in the game.
You even see it at "parks" level.
I think Spain are a joy to watch, moving the ball quickly and with purpose.
If England do manage to reach the final, at least we should see a decent game now the French are out.
They'd both be playing for pelanties!

On current form, I think France would batter England.
